i'm a snake (1989). funny though, you'd have thought the dragon would just fly across the river. and i was told it was a rat, and not a mouse (my little brother is a rat - my sister is the monkey)

anyway, this snake thing has me down as "serious" (to an extent) and "lazy" (damn straight). but this bit about "their innate grace and elegance gives them a dislike for frivolities, small minds and foolish talk" is totally wrong - i like pointless and foolish banter, and i didn't knwo you could measure someone's mind. and what's a "frivolitie" anyway?

Definitions of frivolity on the Web:

    * the trait of being frivolous; not serious or sensible
    * bagatelle: something of little value or significance
    * buffoonery: acting like a clown or buffoon

    [facepalm]

sir_spamalot, this is not a "Which n are you" quiz. It's Chinese astrology.

when did this legend come about, anyway? why did a bunch of animals decided to raceacross a river, i mean.

the race was to determine which order the years would take their names from the animals, the creator decided it was the fairest way of doing it. It's an ancient Chinese legend

To you, perhaps. As for me, I'm sure I got enough money for some new games (2, 3 max).

    Hmm...last time I remember, I'm either a water or wood monkey... :-\

The rat tricked the cat and the cat didn't make it to the end. I think. :p

Hardly, the cat was fourth. As I said in my original post, the rat/mouse hitched a ride on the buffalo. Whether he asked first or not isn't stated, so the rat may have tricked the buffalo into giving him a ride.

Isn't there about 15 days of Chinese New Year? This is the Year of the Rat?

This is the Year of the Rat. There are 12 animals in all, and each year is a different animal. After twelve years, it's the year of the rat again.

Isn't there certain superstitions about Chinese New Year? Like the house has to be clean before the first day etc?

I don't know that one, but I believe the dragon dances are more than mere celebrations...

Actually it's "you're not suppose to clean the house during new year." We sorta believe its as if your sweeping your luck away.

Great. Right when I read that, my copy of "Still Alive" (the ending credits song for Portal) went, "It's so delicious and moist."
