Either read the comic or the movies, because, no offense to the guy himself, I found the way Rizal wrote it pretty boring. At least when its translated into English.

It's funny, because on the TV Tropes page on El Fili puts the spoiler on who Simon really is as a Late Arrival Spoiler, stating that pretty much every Filipino knows.

I never knew until I read the end of the comic. Then again, I grew up in the US rather then the Philippines, so I never read them until High School. And at that time I was rather apathetic towards reading books so I drafted to the comics instead. And like I mentioned, they never made an attempt to say outright who Simon really is until the very end.

 

hahaha! Well, lets get serious, do you know why we need to study Rizal?
There's a simple answer, and I tell that to all my students. Hope you know the reason. Its not because of the BS reason he is our national hero or something. Bonifacio, Emilio Jacinto and the others are national heroes too, but you don't see them having a specific course to be taught in schools.

 

In U.P. we call Rizal 101 as P.I. 100 (no it's not "Putang Ina" as in mother f*cker but I so wish it so ) & I too feel Rizal isn't worthy of being "a national hero" as he's just a nerdy, whiney douche

And thankfully my P.I. 100 Professor also thought so too. When I took the subject our class didn't focus on Rizal's life & his works as most Professors of the subject tends to. No, in his class we mostly debated the validity of his national hero title focusing in three major facts:

1. All he did was write about the injustice happening in the country then whining about it to Spain, of which Spain did not believe in.

2. He never actually took part in the revolution & in fact he even told Bonifacio to reconsider as he (Rizal) feels that the rebels do not have the necessary tools (armaments) to actually win the war, ergo Rizal having no balls

3. His act of martyr-dom (him facing forward to receive his death sentence) was more of an act of Douchedom than heroisim.

So yeah, P.I. 100 was very fulfilling to me as a Bonifacio believer

 

Rizal fought with a pen rather than a sword. I guess he didn't think that violence is the answer. Besides? Who the heck likes violence? Maybe I do, but I myself don't like to take part on a war. And taking part in them isn't what Rizal wanted.

Also, my teacher told me that Rizal told the rebels that they weren't ready to face their invaders yet when he was offered to join them and thus, he did not. But an early discovery of the said rebels forced them to fight with poor weapons, thus them being reduced to nothing.

 

Dude seriously, when in history did "fighting with a pen" really won a war?

Rizal is a naive coward & the rebels winning the revolution with poor armament is a statement in itself... albeit we won the war thanks to America buying off our country from Spain.

Also, note Mindanao, although Spain had control over Luzon & parts of Visayas they were never able to fully control Mindanao. Know why?

It's because our Muslim brethren have the guts (and the drive thanks to their strong faith in Islam) to actually take arms & fend off the colonizers.

Might I add, Rizal is nothing more than a nosy expatriate

Sure his ideals of equality for the common Filipino was righteous, especially with his plea for giving "Indios" (racial term used by the Spanish for the commoner Filipino) good quality education that used to be only available to the upper-class elitists at the time, but him cowering at the colonizers' strength is non-commendable.

In my opinion, Rizal is just like those air head "Balik bayans" or Filipinos who live at or where born at other countries who are like "OMFG! I'm Filipino & I rock" who are actually clueless (and like the case of lotlol do not give a shit about discovering his roots' heritage) as to what is happening in the country in the lower class level. Or, Rizal is like those OFWs (I'm mostly referring to Sea Farers though) who think they're better than everyone because they earn more money & believe in that stupid propaganda that "OFWs are Today's Heroes", a title rightfully belonging to teachers

 

Rizal is cool and everything but really at times he is over-exaggerated.

The book I utilized when I took Rizal in college is just plain ridiculous. I forgot what the book is called, but the cover is blue.

 

The one thing I absolutely hate about Rizal the most are those idiotic Rizalistas. Those morons who thought Rizal was Jesus Christ's 2nd coming. Those idiots actually formed a cult based on that deluded notion too

Personally, I think Bonifacio kicked more ass.
But they said that Rizal was favored because his death was more "dramatic" or something.

EDIT: Jesus and Rizal? Rizal has his own faults too. And he is a womanizer, or so I heard. And he was the cause of the death of his then soon to be child (he was so excited at the thought of a child that he pranked then pregnant Josephine Bracken and she miscarried the child.)
Or so I've heard.

Is it alright if I laughed in any way? Because, you gotta admit, that connection was pretty funny.

But personally, I'd think that Rizal being a divine being is pretty stupid. It's like saying Thomas Edison is God because he invented light, and according to the book of Genesis 1:3 "And God said, Let there be light: and there was light." pretty much makes this true in the context that Rizal and Jesus are both Asian.

They're using fail juxtaposition here IMO.

He should be ip ban from the internet... the nerve.,...

 

Unfortunately IP Banning him is not an option as he does not log onto the internet on his own line, that is he does not have his own internet access. Currently he only logs onto the net by net cafe so if an IP Ban were to be instated, the poor & unsuspecting cafe will be the one to suffer not that jerk.

Also, because of the fact that you can make hundreds of e-mail addresses if you so want because of "ease of use", he just creates new accounts whenever the admins ban one he creates.
