wooh hold on cahos i don't want arguments now but i was just responding to dancing_bookworm's question like which is better, the jeepneys or trains, i don't think that's bad mouth. i meant it was cheap cause you only pay P7.00, is that expensive enough? and isn't it true that you'll get all the pollution and their black smokes, i got several bruises too cause not all jeepney drivers are good drivers, some are stepping on the brakes really hard, and some are loading & unloading passengers on strictly non-loading&unloading areas. i ride the jeepneys everyday just as much as i ride the trains everyday and there's nothing i can do but to deal with it. the price is cheap so what can you expect more? if that's bad mouth to you then it's your own opinion. sorry about this cahos, i have nothing against the drivers on their personal lives, i'm just stating my side.

That speaker is from PISTON (Pinag-Isang Samahan Ng Tsuper At Operators Nationwide.) and that group is a very Militant group mind you as they have connections with militant groups like the CPP-NPA.

Now about you asking about their hesitance to lower fare prices when oil companies roll back the cost of Fuel, do you even know how little those oil companies roll back, compared to how much they raise the prices all the time :p

So they roll back 50 centavos, whoop di doo, but then weeks later they raise the prices to 75 centavos or even a peso higher, so you do the Math.

They lower prices by 50 centavos per liter then raise it by a peso the next time, so who wins in this situation now? :p

Also it's pretty obvious you know nothing of the Jeepney trade or of cars in general. Do you even know how much parts for vehicles are, or how much it costs to have your vehicle fixed at a machine shop? Add to that the fact that these vehicles have to be on the road six days a week, so wear & tear is an obvious issue.

And about drivers stopping almost every inch to pick up passengers, you obviously don't know how the driver - operator relationship is. Let me educate you then.

Not all Jeepney Drivers own the vehicle they drive, most drivers just drive one a fellow driver or a non-active driver known as an Operator owns. He then IS NOT payed with a monthly salary like any employee, instead he EVEN PAYS for his use of the Operator/s' jeep, kinda like he renting the vehicle to a fixed amount they agree upon. For example for a nine-seater Jeepney, this "rent" or Boundary as it is called for one day is about 600 to 700 Php. The driver's earning therefore is generated by how much he earned beyond his boundary. So they are often left with no other choice, that is to pick up as many passengers as they can to make a profit.

So you bad mouthing drivers stopping everywhere trying to pick up passengers & wasting your valuable time is a true testament of how ignorant you are of Jeepney Drivers (and Operators') situation.

Seriously, before you bad mouth something, go out there & get to know everything about that thing you're dissing before you lay smack.

And before you throw me stupid questions like:

Ask yourself, "Do I even know what the fcuk I'm talking about here".

And didn't you know? I am a devout follower of the Black Nazarene & it was my Birthday on the feast day of Quiapo which is on the 9th of January, so I'm well damn educated as to how Quiapo looks like :p

Sorry sir, but you fail at your argument :p

First its a question, not an argument. If it was i would have put my question in debate.
So take a chill pill and do not think every question to you is an argument.

Secondly, the second question is just me basing it somehwere, i could put there Diliman, or Divisoria or even baclaran, but since i'm more known to Quiapo, I used Quiapo as an example. So, i'm not saying if you have or not been to Quiapo. Would you like me to re-base the area?

Third, i'm asking this to you because you just stated you were a member of those organization, so you are the best one to answer but since you take every question asked to you that serious with the accusing tone of me bad mouthing those people, i would not ask you again with any question. Thank you Sir for the time in aswering my question. And hope we dont cross-examine each other in future events.

Oh, so you don't see this as bad mouthing, or saying something negative about something you are not well aware off?

You could just have left this part out & I'd have accepted your point that you aren't saying anything bad.

    Also:

This alone should have made you think of the situation per se, I mean why do you think they need to earn a lot of money, if say a nine seater Jeepney charging 7Php per head can earn a total of 140Php ( that's nine person per side, times two plus two up front, ergo 20 people altogether times 7) per one trip. So if you say, a Jeepney goes two ways to cover a route, that's 140 times two equaling 280Php & going for a minimum amount 6 of back & forth rounds amounting to 1,680Php you'd think the Driver has earned a lot. But he actually doesn't, as I said, there is the boundary of say 600Php, so he's left with 1,080 for his earning right? Wrong, he also needs to pay for Diesel & in most drivers I know of, they spend around 500 to 600Php for diesel so they're left with a measly 480Php earnings for the day. That is, if they had a good day filled with passengers & no bad traffic enforcers mooching off on them :p

The situation worsens the longer the route is, you'd think a longer route equals more income, but as I said fuel & passenger ratio also plays a big part in it.

Good for you if the Jeepney was yours as an Operator, you'd definitely get good enough income out of it, but for drivers who just ply the route for somebody, such is not the case.

My parents were born in the Philipines and America, so that means I am American and Filipino. Technically, my family tree is, all what I said above.

I agree. Jeepney drivers are cool.

I hate jeepney drivers. They apparently have their own traffic laws, and they seem to be illiterate at times.

"Bawal magbaba dito. Dito po ang sakayan." Says the street sign.

HELL NO. I LOAD AND UNLOAD WHERE I WANT. I DON'T CARE IF THIS IS INCONVENIENT FOR YOU, I NEED TO GET PASSENGERS.

As a commuter, I loved jeepney drivers. They saved time, and made life easier for me.

But now, as a licensed driver, I loathe every single one. I doubt they even went through the right process to be able to get their licenses.

So yeah, um guys. I need some help over here.

I passed the Ateneo exam (woohoo!) and my parents are letting me dorm only if I always come back home on the weekends. So, I'm wondering: How much are the dorm fees at Ateneo? Or any place nearby there?

On topic: I don't really wanna commute an hour + everyday on a jeepney just to get to school. So any good dorms nearby UP or Ateneo worth mentioning?

Would you consider living at a boarding house instead Kamage?

There are several near Krus na Ligas near both UP & Ateneo, but if you're looking into Dorms per se, better scout out Ateneo Campus now before it's too late.

UP, generally does not allow transients (non-UP students) to take up rooms in their Dorms, especially at Kalayaan Hall which is for Freshmen & at Yakal which is for Sophomores, but the ones for third year & up students do allow transient occupants, though I'm not sure if they'll take in a freshie, plus you're at the mercy of Fratmen scouting for pledges if you do decide to stay there.

My parents would never tolerate me joining a frat, so I'd like to stay away from those as much as possible, but I have no clue about how boarding houses would work. As you can probably guess I am a bit "maarte" about where I'll be staying (bad trait of mine :|) And I guess I'm gonna be a little OP wherever I'll stay at. I don't know whether I'll prefer a boarding house, or if I'll just stay with my friend in Cubao.

I just remembered, there are cheaply priced apartment houses at Tandang Sora, where my former college buddies used to live in & there are boarding houses in Krus na Ligas that are kinda like Apartment houses in the sense they're simple one room houses that you rent for yourself or with a room mate.

And by the way, instead of commuting, why not drive to school on your own? Haven't you started driving school yet?

Oh & check this page out my friend:

It might help you out :) And good luck with college :)
