This would probably be useless now as my reply is extremely late:

I for one don't like the fact that Jose Rizal should be our National Hero & in fact back in college my entire P.I. 100 class (I'm not sure what the Acronym means but basically it's Rizal101 where you learn about Rizal's life & his works our Uni just renamed the course as P.I.100) all agree that Andres Bonifacio should have been our National hero. The points that the legislators at the time the National hero was conferred to Rizal are as follows:

    1. The man is a learned Expatriate - Big deal so he wrote countless literary works that depicted the cruel & unjust rule of the Spanish colonizers so that Spain can take action, of course he failed miserably.

    2. He was a Martyr - His whole dramatic "I will face my executioners' sentence with dignity" final act is so over-rated :p

    3. He was a follower of the belief in "The pen is mightier than the sword" - Basically Rizal is a coward :p He was in correspondence with Andres Bonifacio & the Katipunan & in one occasion he (Rizal) actually told Bonifacio to not go through with the Civil revolt saying that the Katipunan is under-armed (lacking in weapons & munitions) & that an attempt at an uprising will end in a fatal bloodshed for nothing. He says this citing the earlier revolt by the Chinese settlers against Spain in the 1700's.

But even so Bonifacio still undertook the revolt & won the revolution, even if the whole "loss of the Spanish Regime" was just an act Spain enacted seeing as they took America's offer to buy out the Philippines from them.

Even if the odds were against Bonifacio, he did had the Balls to physically do something, unlike Mr. cowardly scholar Jose Rizal who's last thing he could do was die a "gay" Martyr's death, pfft loser :p

Notice for every Filipino out there!

This also applies to you folks of Filipino Blood but are from different countries.

If you were born in Manila (the city not Metro Manila) read this

If you were born abroad, that is you hail from another country & your relatives (or ancestors perhaps) were born in Manila, you should inform them as well.

I just saw on the news last night that most of the records & documents at Manila City Hall got drenched during the previous two storms. This includes amongst others Birth Certificates :( so if you were born in Manila, especially if you were born in the 80's you should be a little worried :( . The officials at Manila City Hall did state that "most" of these records have already been backed up at NSO's (National Statistics Office or our country's census bureau) computerized records so that could bring us a sigh of relief.

But just to be sure, when the weather clears up a bit & the personnel have thoroughly dried up said documents, you should definitely go there & check to see if your Birth Certificate has been salvaged, if not definitely check NSO.

As for you folks who hail from other countries, if you have no contacts to relatives you might have here, you can have your folks check out NSO's site & try ordering a copy of your/their records at NSO. The site is:

    http://www.census.gov.ph/

    EDIT:

Oh crap it started raining again :'(

um cahos, thanks for the news about it. if for some chance like i have a copy of the birth certificate from nso and my records from cityhall was destroyed do i still need to go there and check? or will the city hall just get it from NSO?

also, just curious, is the records in the city hall more important than the NSO records?

Hmm... as far as I know the records at NSO are the same as those you could get from your City's Hall, except most records at NSO only compass birth, wedding & death certificates. The records at City Hall includes that & other things like legal documents you might have.

If you do have a legitimate copy of your documents on hand & the ones at City Hall got destroyed, you need to notify City Hall so they can rebuild those records using your documents. That's not a very easy process though as you'll need legal advice in some cases.

Also, if your records do get destroyed but NSO has a copy of them, City Hall will just normally contact them to rebuild their own database :)
