well for wired network cards you can't beat intel, try this one: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16833106036, although there is also gigabit networking built into your motherboard.

I wouldnt recommend wireless in a desktop since its inferior to wired in every way except portability, and a desktop isnt portable, but ill ask patton what he recommends for one.

the only reason i have issues with wired is because my ethernet cable is EXTREMELY short T_T do they make extensions for that? if so, no need for a wireless adapter :p

okay, i don't really understand these network cards...but the following seem good :p

    which do you recommend?

you can buy longer cables. The spec allows for anything up to 90 meters or 295 feet. While you can get connectors that join multiple cables together, its generally not regarded as a good idea unless you have no choice, and using multiple ones is a complete no-no even though it would probably work.

i dunno what brands and stuff of ethernet cables are good...but here's a comparison of 2

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Productcompare.aspx?Submit=ENE&N=100010070%20600026273%20600026310%20600026278&IsNodeId=1&bop=And&CompareItemList=132|12-107-354^12-107-354-S01%2C12-200-436^12-200-436-S01

are either of those good? and in case you didn't notice, i edited the post above with a few network cards.

I recommend the network card I linked.

with network cables it doesnt really matter what brand you get, what matters is the length (no longer than 90m/295ft), cable rating (cat5e or cat6 in your case) and cable type (UTP in your case) and wiring (straight through, NOT crossover). beyond that pretty much anything is fine.

The startech one you linked is actually stp/ftp cable, still works the same its just less affected by EMI in electrically noisy environments such as workshops.

    and this Network card

But Lion, dude, as you stated, core quad is just all you need for gaming, but it's now, how about 4 years in the future?
Better get everything better to make an upgrade like after 3~4 years.
And about my comparisson with the Q9550 and the P4 you seem to did not understand, what I mean is to prove that the GHZ is not everything to look on a processor, of cource you need to see it, but also look how many MHZ of bus it does have, and the how many MB the cache have.
And Geez that x4has just 6MB of cache, and please, take a look at this:
You say I7 is not good enuff, beat it:
    http://www.gamevicio.com.br/i/noticias/43/43673-review-amd-phenom-ii-x6-1090t-sob-a-lupa-da-madboxpc/index.html

About the cooled desktop being dangerous, that I didn't ever seen in my life, I build like 3 of those PCs in a week, never related this issue, neither my other friends that are tech too.
And for the HD, the one I posted ain't bad, the use of standar cooler for processor neither.
The rest I agree with you, I may forgot soem point

the I7 just seems overpriced and bloated, plus it's by Intel >.>
    see here
    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819115066

and anyways, i'm fine with current gen gaming, if i need an upgrade, i will do so >.>

hey loony, i'm posting all the parts i got on the following post...

    http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=46738.msg1073449#msg1073449

    am i missing anything? my dad's pissed cuz i'm at $3,000 ::)
and will i need any cables/extensions or anything?

4 years time is irrelevant, the industry will have changed entirely in that time and a current 6 core or even 12 core won't cut it. you can't build that far ahead. we'll probably be way beyond 6Ghz by then.

cache size and FSB speed aren't actually of huge importance. more cache helps some things a bit but its not really noticeable except under the kinds of load the RomUlation servers have.

I never said the i7 wasnt good, I said its irrelevant because this is an AMD build. you might be an intel fan and thats all well and good, but ryan p has decided he wants an AMD and you're deliberately trying to confuse him. This is his first build, if you're going to help then accept that he wants an AMD system and provide actual help. otherwise don't confuse the issue.

I was referring to hard disk coolers, they aren't necessary and my friend twice woke up to find his on fire while still attached to the disk. why risk it for something that doesnt provide much benefit? A decently ventilated case with good airflow does just as good a job, if not better.

I have a 1.2ghz celeron with a stock cooler, stock paste, stock everything (I didnt build it, its an intel system board). It gains 1-2 degrees centigrade every SECOND it is powered on, even sitting at the bios screen and within minutes its over 60C, which is far too hot for an idle CPU. I changed the paste to arctic silver 5 and it made virtually no difference. I switched to an aftermarket cooler and now it doesnt even hit 60 under full load. I have plenty of other experiences where stock coolers offer inadequate or barely adequate performance, so it is a personal rule (and I know a number of other techs with this rule) that I never ever use stock coolers

    I didn't mean this one I7 970, I mean the I7 980x.
    http://ark.intel.com/Product.aspx?id=47932
You said money wasn't problem so...
But if you like to go with X4, no problem with that, it's cheaper, you can save lotsa money in it.
But I advise to not be satisfied with today's, cuz if you do, next month you gonna need a new upgrade, upgrade whores ain't the best to be.

I see, it's not that I'm fanboy, oh please, the fanboy things go for the customers, we build what they want to , I build AMD based PCs too, it's not a problem to go with it, but it wasn't my intention to confuse him anyway, I like to expand the horizons and giving more options, and he told it was no problem the money, so the new mobo wasn't a problem, well I ain't gonna go far in this, cuz it's irrelevant, if he like to go with AMD, then fine, I don't really care, so ok, I was told that an AMD Phenom II X6 was better than the X4, so why don't go with this one? and I said it go VS the I7 980x, not really to go by I7 if he doesn't want to.
The X6 is so great, we must think in the future, not only on today. If we do, every time we gonna have to upgrade.
About CPU's temperature, well, Intel says mine could go up to 70°C, but mine in hot days go 45°C and in cold/normal is like 38°C/40°C and I use standard cooler. (Hot days here is 40°C, cold days is like 27°C)
There the HD cooler I meant, not really attached to the HD, it's in the desktop, no issue with that.

Well, either X4 or X6, go with which you like, I didn't mean to confuse '-'

Thats a case fan, not a hard disk cooler. This is a hard disk cooler:

He won't need an upgrade any time soon

hmm...will look for one then :p but i got a problem...i asked at school, and the tech specialist said there's an area on newegg's checkout to use multiple gift cards (visa debit) though i can't find it...wanna tell me where it is exactly? cuz i'll be paying with like, 6-8 cards T_T i'll get looking for that MASSIVE HDD :p

    EDIT: got it!

Hey man that's a good HD, and it's f*ckin' cheaper compared to here.
Great cache memory, tranferency rate and thing, if I were you, I'd take this one.

64MB cache on a 1TB is unusual, its usually 32MB
