I has a onboard card, the one that comes in my mother board, my mother board is BIOSTAR G31 M7 TE, it was really great, I don't use it anymore just cause a energy shutdown burned it, so I have now a PCI 5.1 sound, which is good too, but if you like to buy the one there, it's all up to you, I just posted a option for you, like if you wanna save some money for example.

onboard varies wildly. some are good, some are not. Virtually no onboard supports the special effects systems used in games (things like EAX, for example), and no onboards are capable of the kind of work the soundcard has to do for true high quality massive multichannel sound in modern games

    They're good, but my view:
The desktop box, get one more ventilated, such as COOLER MASTER HAF 922, for CPU's Cooler, if you ain't gonna overclock it, keep the one that comes with it, the standard stand it so good, these other powerfull coollers are just for people that do overclock.
    The voltage source.
Get one of 850w from Corsair.

The GPU, GTX 480 is too much hot, get a SLI of two GTX 460, or if you gonna keep the 1000w v-source, get the ATI RADEON HD5970, that is much colder than GTX 480.

    ._.
you contradict everything loony says ._.
the case is a great choice...it is a coolermaster like stated above, just a different model..

GTX 480 has more/better features, and my fan will keep it pretty cool..
and i doubt i'm gonna overclock cuz it comes factory default at 3.4GHZ..
i'm keeping the PSU because it's ultra huge, and won't use 1000 watts unless me stuffs require it ._.
i don't what a radeon because it doesn't have the OpenCL features that Nvidia does..

    phscarface Well-Known Member

If I contradict, this ain't in porpuse, I'm not that kind that go agaisnt someone just to be.
Well, there's a good point there about the GPU, but the Desktop box, the one I said is way more ventilated than this one, and can hold that GTX 480 so good, it even hold GTX 260 that is physically bigger. It does have 3 coolers, two of the size 14cm diameter and one smaller about err.. like 10, maybe less centimeters.
the frontier cooler is right to cool the HDs, if you gonna put lotsa HDs there it's good.
I see you prefer the Nvidia than Radeon, great point, so in that case it's better to make a cross between a HD5970 and a GTS240, then you got both features.
But this is only my opinion, go with the way you like to, I just present the other options that you can follow if you like too.
And if money isn't problem, to buy a mobo socket LGA 1366 and a I7 980x that have 6 cores.

And let's see, if you keep the gtx 480 and al the features you chosed in that list, a corsair 850w can hold and stand all that really good, 1000w is too much for that.
Size doesn't mean anything, yeah it does fit for "that thing" and for Computers too ^^
And this phenom gargala the GTX 480.
*Gargala is a slang here that means the processor slow down the GPU.

EDIT: If you ain't gonna overclock it, don't need a powerful cooler for the processor, the standard hold it.

the thing is, i don't want an ATX mid tower, i want an ATX full tower -.-"
i want a large power supply so I'm sure it will work with future upgrades..
and how does the phenom II slow down the GTX 480?!?!

  9. phscarface

    phscarface Well-Known Member

The slow down is obvious, this have happened since old days, when you put a high ended GPU and a poor old or medium ended CPU.
Like if you put a 9800GT with a Pentium 4, the processor's clock is slower than the GPU's, so it makes the gpu work in for example, 50% of it's capacity, it variates depending on the models.
A High ended GPU requires a High Ended CPU.

hmmm...so even though the AMD Phenom II is the latest on the market, it's not the best?!?! i'll need to look into this :p

  11. phscarface

    phscarface Well-Known Member

The Phenom ii x6 is top ended in it's category, not the phenom ii x4

  12. Tomoka

    Tomoka Well-Known Member

but like loony said early, anything above quad-core won't make a difference, and the higher the GHZ, the better, the amount of cores doesn;t matter, the frequency does, and the phenom II X6 only goes up to 3.2 GHZ

    http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103849

    the X4 i have picked out is 3.4GHZ :p

  13. phscarface

    phscarface Well-Known Member

    The GHZ ain't all.
Must see the bus, also the cache memory, there are alot of stuff to look in a processor.

    A Q9550 2.83Ghz is better than a P4 3.0Ghz

    Tomoka Well-Known Member

well...describe to me what makes the X6 better than the X4... cuz i still think the X4 is better, try to sway me 8)

    There's some features of it:

Phenom II X6 have 6 cores

It has less GHZ but has more cores, take a look at performance graphic:

Take a look at this site too:

    based on this
    CPU Specification Comparison
Processor Clock Speed Max Turbo L2 Cache L3 Cache TDP Price
    AMD Phenom II X6 1090T 3.2GHz 3.6GHz 3MB 6MB 125W $295
    AMD Phenom II X6 1055T 2.8GHz 3.3GHz 3MB 6MB 125W $199
    AMD Phenom II X4 965 BE 3.4GHz N/A 2MB 6MB 125W/140W $185
    AMD Phenom II X4 955 BE 3.2GHz N/A 2MB 6MB 125W $165
    AMD Phenom II X4 945 3.0GHz N/A 2MB 6MB 95W $155
    AMD Phenom II X4 925 2.8GHz N/A 2MB 6MB 95W $145

    it's MUCH better o_O
is there such a thing as a 4.0GHZ processor without overclocking?
and also...i didn't understand you performance chart -.-"
but by looking at it, the X6 is higher than the X4...so maybe i will get an X6 :p but is there a 4.0GHZ?

    oh my god.

the 480 and the 260 are the SAME SIZE. theres standard sizes, if manufacturers deviate from standard sizes then they wont fit in any case, or motherboard. simple as.

I have already verified that his case is adequately ventilated, there is no need to change it.

hard disk coolers are completely unnecessary, in fact the ones with fans are a downright bad idea. My friend had one catch fire.

he wants nvidia propitiatory features, getting a radeon would do no good whatsoever.

he's chosen an AMD based system, intel is irrelevant. There is absolutely no need to mention i7s or LGA1366.

there is no overkill with PSUs except price

Size IS important. The bigger the case, the easier it is to work in and to ventilate.

NO processor can keep up with the 480, so that is completely irrelevant.

You NEVER EVER use stock coolers. They're only just adequate.

UTTER BULLCRAP. This isn't the late 90s. the phenom II IS top of the line.

irrelevant. quad core is all you need for gaming

Well duh. Of course an i series is better than a P4, its about 10 years newer. the P4 was shite anyway, even intel says so.

no 4ghz yet. Also the highest x6 is only 3.2Ghz so in games it will be outperformed by the x4

that's what i thought!!!! great way to lead me in the right direction loony! BTW, i'm laughing REALLY hard at how you denied everything he said ::)

and could you give me more info on network cards? i'm not really sure what i'm looking for...and i also want a wireless adapter to lessen up the cables :p
