    HELL YEAH. I love it.

Got into Metal Gear Saga again, found the PSX game in a Good Will. My friend is also selling his GameCube MGS:TS game in mint condition, which is around 100$. uber-collectible.

I liked the Advanced Wars: DOR story. My all time favorite would be... I haven't decided.

Did someone mention Xenogears? (don't want to read 5 page) It's one of the best story I have ever played. Plent of twist to go by, detailed and complicated. The story progresses not to seek the final boss but by slices. I would never get bored playing it. In addition, the music score is epic, gameplay is addicting, characters are lovable, and it involve Gears!

My rank 1 goes to Chrono Trigger with epic story too. My third probably would be Final Fantasy X since it really does touch the hearts of the player with its emo story, blaghh... and it's epic :)

Ah XENOGEARS...just finished it recently and yes it has the most complex story ever told in a video game and i played tons of story-heavy video games but that one is the most complicated, story wise.

The Half Life Series is the best one, not because of the actual script of the story, but because of the storytelling Valve uses to make it a fun game while also a fun story.
    The best, by far
There are also the great ones along with it, that are far better in the script and not as good in the storytelling sense, like Planetscape and both Fallout games

Planetscape Torment sounds lame? Its absolutely phenomenal, you can't diss it, its far better than anything else you named there

All games of the Legend Of Zelda.
I loved the storyline of professor layton to.
Time hollow and Suikoden Tierkreis also had a great storyline.

Half-Life is good because you're directly in the story, not by cut scenes like in other games. But the story itself, I mean the actual plot is pretty basic. For me Deus Ex is the best in terms of storytelling and the way it immerse you in the conspiracy is amazing.

Planescape: Torment wins when it's about script and writing. The games has over 800,000 lines of words, so no mystery there. Not to mention the quality of the dialogs is really the best so far in the video game medium.

In terms of complexity, Xenogears takes the cake.

I seriuosly doubt someone will have the balls to make a a topic like that and say: "No Final Fantasy".

I would say that Half Life has one of the best histories so far IMO. RPG games are pretty much the same thing with history, specially FF.

I'm not entirely certain what you mean by history, but if you mean what I think you mean, then I'd have to move for The Elder Scrolls series, even though I despise Oblivion.

The Elder Scrolls series is pretty damn huge lore wise. Still, The Warcraft universe is the biggest and most powerful so far.

Haven't heard any real Warcraft lore and I've played all the games (though admittedly only a little WoW because I didn't like it that much)

If you pay attention to most RPGs, there's not much variety in story-telling. Every plot ends more or less the same, you have almost the same motivations, final bosses with similar objectives, similar hero groups...The only thing that seems to change is gameplay system, often being so complicated that you lose interest pretty quickly(FFXII) or the same turn based thing, or half turn based thing(Kingdom Hearts, TWEWY). You end up with only a good history left, but some games prefer to make outstanding prerendered cutscenes and stuff with a mediocre history(FFX).

What? Did you read the manual that comes with all the Warcraft games before WoW?
The Dark Great Beyond, Planets, Emerald Dream, The Titans, The Na'aru, The Burning Legion,The Old Gods, etc...tons...
By the way, I assume you played WoW without reading its quest description that much. That's optional but really good.

Dungeons & Dragons already had all this stuff(backstory) more than 10 years ago.

Dungeon Dragons is not video game but Warcraft and many other RPGs are inspired by it.
