even one example screws your point over. and how many RPGs has you change clothes? Change equipment yes, not truly CLOTHES... Zelda ALTTP has you change the color of your tunic but you don't freely change them. FF7, 8 has either materia or draw magic or GFs. Those aren't clothes. Even FFX doesn't have you change clothes either, mostly bangles or bucklers (shields). And changing clothes reminds me more of dress up games rather than RPGs...
Final Fantasy VII and Chrono Trigger AREN'T THAT GREAT. Jesus, it's like the entire world has been talked into thinking these games are good. Star Ocean: The Second Story beats both of them hands-down.
Actually, it's the other way around. Just because one Zelda game allows you to customize (not just clothes) doesn't mean all the other games are RPGs. In Link to the Past, you never had the luxury to choose the types of clothes you wear, or any other kind of customization. With regards to your argument with FF7 8 and 10, with 7 you can change equipment, armor, etc. and put different kinds of materia in them, producing different battle results. That's the kind of customization that makes it an RPG. It's not just about changing clothes, it's also about customizing your character(s) in such a way that it changes your looks, battle effectiveness, etc. With 8, you have the Junction system, and with 10 you have the grid, both somewhat similar to FF7 in the sense of customization. @Suiseiki - i know it's just your opinion, but Star Ocean beating Chrono Trigger? You've got to be kidding me.
The way you said it made it seem that just because a game allows you to change clothes, or equipment, makes it an RPG. The ability to customize to an almost infinite number of different possibilities is a better described defining feature of an RPG. The fact that you can have materia added (and you can level that up!) onto your equipment or certain magic junctioned, or certain passive abilities due to equipped gear is very RPG. Zelda lacks the heavy customization, and is therefore, not classified as an RPG. That would be a better point to make. I was just trying to disprove your claim since it seemed rather far fetched. Zelda is more action-adventure anyway since it does not involve leveling up, the other defining feature of RPGs. And yeah, that Star Ocean bit is going to need some solid points as to why it is superior to Chrono Trigger.
I dont love childish RPG's. So ,no DS RPG's are included. 1-FFVII 2-Diablo Series 3-Fallout Series 4-Eternal Sonata (Perfect Story) 5-Fable 2 and goes to infinity and beyond.
1. LoZ Majora's Mask (I think it's much better than OoT for it's deeper sub-stories and it's dark content. 2. Tales Of Phantasia (Fun combat, funny dialogue, probably because of the DeJap translation) 3. Castlevania (I'm in the middle of playing all the 2d games and they are so much damn fun) 4. Mario and Luigi (I always liked controlling both of them at the same time, fun combat mechanics) 5. Paper Mario (it's a shame Luigi wasn't a large part of it) 6. Fallout 3 (expansions, yay!)
i cant think of every rpg game ive played but i can say that Persona 4 is THE best rpg there is. never played ff7 because i cant stand turn based rpg games to a certain extent. persona 4 is an exception. i would give that game a huge gold star and a big 100/100 and a FTW!!111!1! cookie besides, the story in ff7 isnt interesting for me. dont get it anyways. is the guy with the huge sword in a deep depression? why not just swing the sword like crazy and kill everything?
stop with the arguing i am aware that zelda is not a ''true'' rpg but it does borrow enough elements for it to be more of an rpg than anything else, in zelda you do level in the way you get more abilities as you go on, the scale of all the games are the same as rpgs as are the puzzle elements also the tone of the game is identical to many rpgs and there is simply not enough action in zelda to call it an adventure game. however it isn't a true rpg but an interesting take on the genre an it is a alternative to some rpg conventions such as leveling
I think Jade Empire was a really underrated game for the xbox. Also Paper Mario:1000 Year Door for the gamecube was great.
i dont see all DS RPGs are childish? some of them is childish, bot i dun't thin TWEWY, SMT : devil summoner, FF4, and upcoming KH 358/w days are childish
I still stand by my statement that KH would be a badass RPG if it took out every single Disney element. Maybe it wouldn't be so damn embarrassing to play in front of your friends...It would be better than FFCC. It would be like having a non-numbered installment (like FFCC) with all of the cameos from the numbered-installments (like VI, VII, VIII, IX, etc.)
1) Suikoden 2) Suikoden 2 3) Final Fantasy VIII 4) Star Ocean: The Second Story 5) Lunar: SSSC 6) Legend of Legaia 7) TWEWY 8) SMT : devil summoner 9) Golden Sun 10) Final Fantasy VII
