    Damn, have I forgotten Megadeth?

Anyway, fucking great band too if you're into thrash metal.

Linkin Park are definitely not metal. Megadeth are awesome. Dave Mustaine is a good guitarist (used to be in Metallica, but quit/kicked out because he was a drunk).

Chester from LP likes to scream a lot. I guess that makes people think they're metal.

Megadeth is an awesome band, I also like Fear Factory, Type O Negative, Cradle of Filth is okay. I like Metallica, but they used to be better. I'm old enough to remember what they used to be like. Hardcore shit. I do have to say that Cliff Burton was the greatest bass player I've ever heard. Jason Newstead was good, but no Cliff.

Linkin Park were what is known as Nu Metal. Now they are just a regular rock band. No true metalhead considers Nu Metal to be a part of Metal at all. In fact it is an embarrassment to even call this genre metal. Band's like KoRn, Limp Bizkit, Crazytown fall into this category that synchs a rap style vocal with screaming and talking. Slipknot used to be Nu Metal but they deserve the respect and to be considered a real metal band for actually being good and for changing into a proper metal band with their last record.

Cliff was a legend. Metallica were awesome until they released the follow up to the "Black Album". Everything after that sucks balls. Megadeth are okay but another awesome thrash band from the 80's - 90's is Testament. They are killer.

Right now I'm mostly into Deathcore. I don't care that it's the "in" thing or whatever the fuck. I just love the style, the music, the brutality. Bands like All Shall Perish, At The Throne Of Judgment, As Blood Runs Black, Arsonists Get All The Girls, Winds Of Plague, Suicide Silence, Job For A Cowboy, Whitechapel, Through The Eyes Of The Dead are all amazing. Loving this sound right now. It's generic but who cares, its good.

I saw Metallica 2 nights in a row (at the L.A. Forum) back when they were promoting the Black Album's release. Those were some awesome shows (2+ hours, no opening act), the metal was still raw-sounding and they played as fast and as hard as ever (opening with Battery coming at you like from a machine gun!) But, grimsim's right, that was their turning point and I haven't liked an album they put out since.

And how the hell did Linkin Park get lumped into even the NuMetal catagory? You hear them on the alt stations and I'm pretty sure they wouldn't have been on Headbanger's Ball (then or now.) Maybe it is all the screaming... :-\

Some other good stuff from back in the day: Sepultura - Arise, Anthrax - Persistence of Time, Megadeth - Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?, Metallica - Master of Puppets

Let's not forget Overkill:Evil Never Dies, and Slayer:Seasons in the Abyss.

Anthrax Persistence was awesome, I'd dare say my fav from them. I had it on cassette and wore it out. The tape wouldn't even play anymore.

Testament was cool. I had one of their cds. Souls of Black. I know this may seen like an odd comparison but I liked Iron Maiden better. There are a lot of great metal bands, I wish I had the time to relive them all.

Do you have the new Testament album apophos? it's really good. I like the thrash metal thing. You might want to look at the latest Machine Head album too. It's really really good thrash metal.

No I don't have the new Testament album. About the only way I can hear them is on satellite radio. The newest album I have is Type O Negative: Dead Again. I like it. Have you heard it grim?

I used to enjoy that band but to be honest they have kinda faded from my playlist. I'm not the type to say that "I only listen to one type of metal genre", I generally like most or anything that sounds good (although I restrict myself to metal only), but just struggled to get into the band again. I am glad they are back to playing after their troubles but did not like their new album much after I heard it a my friends place. Right now I'm really into a band called Daath. Pretty cool Industrial metal sound fused with MeloDeath.

    i can't believe i haven't posted here yet...

now???? let me think, well i have at one point or another liked listened and owned most genres of metal bands i have liked nearly ever band that has been listed so far.

well i like the early material from those bands, as they have just got gayer as time has gone on like i don't know why this craze has happend but it just seems that all metal bands now are trying to sound like 80's metal well they're mainly all roadrunner records bands.

year i now dislike almost every band that is on roadrunner they all sound the same and are complete balls, don't get me wrong though there are a few or few songs that are good. (and i used to love dream theater but now there just suck like there rest of the bands that are on that sell out label they just joined)

i just find most stuff boring now with a lack of originality, i no longer like just some one going rrraaaaarrrararararara down a mic or someone playing a shitty fast thrashy riff, any one can just mash up there instruments and play scales very fast (solos).
I'm now very much in to the creation of music i really like new unsigned bans or small label bans before a record company sinks in there teeth and gays it up.
bands for me now have to show talent eather by having an awesome cross genre sound or having timing skills of a god.

my all time favorite band is sikth (progressive/tech metal)

but a list of things I'm in to now and I'll give you links to listen as you will not have heard them.

    the arusha accord
    http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=239732540
(i love this band but most people can't follow it so i don't mind if your a pansy and can't handle the true awesomeness of actually knowing how to write music without going "right lads we have a verse and a chorus, what should we do now just repeat it?")

    tesseract
    http://www.tesseractband.co.uk/sounds.php
(i love the mix of melody, samples and grinding riffs)

    periphery
    http://www.myspace.com/periphery
(awesome unsigned American progressive metal band, mostly instrumental as they don't have a singer at the moment and they produce all! there own music)

and final my all time favorite that have now sadly split as the singers moved on to music production jobs
    SIKTH
    http://www.myspace.com/sikth
best band i have ever seen live, they just make you want to go ape shit and get in the pit (and seeing as they had no gay emo fans there was no one swingthere arms around punching people it was just a good fun crazy ass pit)

Dude, I don't know if this will fit into what you enjoy, but you should try a band called We Butter The Bread With Butter. Really "different". Very experimental death sounding metal. Got some samples and really interesting. Oh and it's in German... :p

I totally love Isacaarum and my fav song is ***shot Combat
Children of Bodom are pretty good too.

grindcore is the worst thing in the history of music if you can call it that. there is no musical ability or skill in playing grindcore

Metallica went constantly down when Mustaine left them.
