Uhm, no not really. Slitting wrists nowadays are rather rare. And attention seekers are more of the hiphop rock scene now. With the oturageously colored jeans and kicks.

Maybe they do seek attention, but no, not by slitting wrists. That was back in 2006. lol

The common stereotype of Emo is a corrupted form of the original, which as Mitsukai said was derived from such bands as he mentioned.
Many bands or styles more commonly grouped as Emo are actually closer to Punk in nature.

Stereotypically speaking however, Emos are generally seen as depressed psychotics who cut themselves for pleasure, dye their hair black and straighten it into an 'Emo Fringe', wear black clothes and sometimes wear make-up. This stereotype is encouraged by bands which, as mentioned, are more similar to Punk music and therefore can be grouped as 'Mall Emo'.

Most of this information was provided by the 'You Don't Know Emo' website.

Yeah. We're just specifying the extension here. The Emo scene may be within or may have sprung from Punk, but what they are now are a totally autonomous entity of fashion, lifestyle and music. One that is utterly the subject of much critic, hatred and disgust.

I'm cool with them, they don't bother me.

From an article I read in the news papers, emo simply is short for emotional. And that's what I believe n "emo" person is, someone that is very sensitive to basically everything. I say it's probably due to some emotional beating that has occurred in their lives, or serious of beatings. I also would say that wiki page was wrong on the part of saying they wear brightly coloured pencil jeans and horned rimmed glasses, those are jerks not emos. Anyway, I honestly think it's stupid, the dressing part and the classification. Example > I'm emo so I'll express myself by dressing like other emos because it's my uniqueness that separates me from everyone else. That seems stupid to me, because if your emo and you dress like other emos, well atleast similar to them then you're no longer unique. In fact your chances of being beaten by other non-emos heightens then you get another excuse to be sensitive. I say emo people i.e. the real ones not the morons that wana have friends so they do all emo like things should just be given more attention and appreciation, because I know a real emo girl, and she literally has a disorder, I don't know how or why, so don't ask, then I know another girl, who tattoo up her skin and wearing black eyeliner and telling me she's emo when her problems are basically just like those or millions of american girls so she's not even being sensitive since other girls don't like their mothers and cry at night as well. However if we're talking and then randomly you get upset, like persons that have a bi-polar disorder, and are medicated that is different. So emo as I said isn't the dress, music or talk it's a condition for some. And to address jerks one time, jerks are just like emos, it's a classification, and a stupid one at that, I seriously can't wear no skinny jeans where my genitals are being squeezed and feel to dance to rubbish music. No, I rather wear normal jeans, and go hang out (lime) and talk real rubbish and when I laughing my jersey don't burst because it's so bloody tight and if I jump in the sea, and I lost satellites can spot me because I'm so bloody bright with all my "geeked" up wear.

you need to stop being a retard and making statements you know nothing about.

people who are beaten as children or suffer emotional abuse most often become aggressive (or reclusive if emotional abuse but then often become alcoholics and become aggressive) as teens or adults, yes they may be suicidal and have depression but you can guarantee that they will not show their emotions as often they will have taken abuse for being upset or to display how they felt.

emo kids are almost always people from good or even well off backgrounds with loving parents.
it is almost always a cry for attention and the disorders they claim to have are not real.

Finding this post, was quick and easy. Under the rainbow is where it was located. Can you help me find my razor? Killing is my game, Little is... me?

You remind me of an emo child. Orange Juice is my favorite juice. Umbrellas protect me from your blood.

Finding this cake, was long and hard.
Under the lies is where it was located.
Can you help me find my icing?
Knowing is my game, Fat is... me?

You remind me of a chocolate cake
    Orangutans are my favorite diet.
    Uranus is smaller than me.

Mine's is about fat people. You see, I find that most emo people are also fat. Don't think so? If you only knew. 'Course, there are exceptions, but very rare. Knowing those emo kids, they usually have low self-esteem. It could also be a normal person with a taste for emo fashion, but just by wearing those clothes, they're already a fag or a full-blown emo. Sucks to be them. But what I'm really trying to say here is, I don't like emo kids. In my opinion, they're weak and worthless. Giant pussies. Ginormous whiners. Each and every single last one of them. Really, I want to kill the next emo I see.

You seem like someone who doesn't understand what you're talking about. Often, we encounter people like you here. Understand that we don't really take kindly to those who like to talk about theories without understanding the basis behind them.

Let's consider the situation for a minute. I am a pretty strong person, but like many of you, have had a few 'emotional beatings' in my life. Knowing this, could you perceive me as 'emo'? Emo/emotional is such a lousy term anyways... by labeling themselves, they make it easier for people to target them for more emotional beatings!

Could you take a moment to at least understand that not everyone who has been hit emotionally turns emo? Out of the consideration of those who really are depressed or have had severe emotional trauma other than 'mommy won't let me see this rock group that my friends like!" Could those people actually take a minute to realize that their problems are so insignificant and people would absolutely die to have their life? Knowing is half the battle, so while it's hard to like you, it's easy to blame your flawed viewpoint on this on your ignorance.

    Long days seems so long.
I cried today, again to this same song.
Tomorrow will just be another day, right?
Tiny pictures of me on the internet at night.
Little by little I die inside.
Everyday people spray me with pesticide.
    Killing insects for a lay.
I wait until it's my day.
Like me or not I will be there
    Long live the emo genre.

    I cut myself deeply.
Sometimes I don't even feel it.

    Another day passes.

No human is perfect, not even Jesus himself.
I will never find an answer that satisfies me.
Going down the alleyway to score crack.
Gingers knows my pain, though they don't talk smack.
    Everyday I struggle to survive.
Ricky gave me a blowjob for a five.

lol you have it all wrong, when I stated emotional beating I meant extensive not as you say mommy won't let me go to the rock? no gospel concert that my friends don't like and I feel as if I'm a loser! I was speaking of, as I said before, long term, not just little things or what would be classified as little. Btw don't be quick to point fingers at me because you know what they say about that. I hope. And I shall state again, I do know some about the situation, I know it's not a little thing, I know it's a big deal so off my back. No Homo

So, say you were mentally abused by the people around you. Under normal circumstances, people shrug it off, it's that occasional person who i unable to handle simple things like this that turn emo. Can you see now that most people who are emo are usually a bunch of whiny babies? Kinda like a newborn thats been slapped really hard?

Maybe you should go to college for psychology like every other mentally abused person. You gotta understand what's wrong with emos.

Do not be proud of being this despicable group. I despise people who whine and talk about how horrible their lives are, it's all a bunch of attention starved bs. Can't stress any of this enough, it's too annoying. Knife a cat instead of your arm, jesus christ.

@RenaldoTT i think you still don't get it to it's full extent.

my education is in child development and i work with teens that have suffered like you could never even imagine and i can tell you that they never share any traits with emos.

i can guarantee that you will not see them act emotional or draw attention to them selves by dressing like a girl.
