I never heard of Kiwis being involved in WW2.

 

we were, but we didnt do much. we only had a real small army cos our population was like 2 million.

actually the americans joined the war a year or two after it started (pearl harbour was dec 7, 1941). you are thinking about ww1, when the allies were defeated and were routing across france, and the americans came a year before the war finished with 1 million troops they had held back to make sure they were well trained. better late then never ;D.

when the american got involved in the second world war they first went on big naval campaigns against the japanese, who had been warring with the other asian countries since 1935 (4 years before the "world war" started in 1939). they didnt get involved in the war against germany fully (by fully i mean they just gave thing like air support before; they didnt get invovled in many major battles) until the invasion of normandy in 1944. and yes, that was around 6 months before the end of the war.

people think that if they got involved in the war earlier, then the initial offensive on germany, (before the invasion after germany had captured europe) then the war would have been won there and there, saving millions of lives and killing hitler and himmler before they could execute all those jews.

are you referring to the rms lusitania? it was sunk may 7, 1915. wrong war . yes it did cause the americans to enter the war, but they wisely decided to keep their troops back and make sure they were well trained first.

and no, the pacific war was definitly part of the second world war. it was probable just as big, if not bigger, than the western front in france.

the war has been divided into two "theatres" by historians... the asia pacific and the european. the european theatre was the war between germany and the allied and soviet powers, and the asian pacific as between japan and her allies and america and its pacific-based allies, like australia and the phillipines (who were captured quite early in the war by the japanese). it definitly wasnt a private war.
