The free version has an annoying drop down box at the bottom.Avira free has an annoying page that appears after an update, but that can be turned off.
AVG scans really quickly. The first scan took less then a day on my computer. And now they only take a few hours.
i think avg just works fine avg always releases a free version and yea the scan in slow but it gets the job done. i know many businesses that use avg and it works well for them.
err, about my problem, is it safe if I open the main site with www.proxy.com since I can't open normally with FF? ( read my previous posts)
thats not a solution, we need to figure out why its not working. Open my computer, and in the address bar type: 'C:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\' and press enter. A folder with about 5 files in it should show, one of the files should be called 'hosts'. Upload that file to rapidshare or somewhere and PM me the link.
ok im not gonna bother with all the comments but i use to use avg i liked it but now i got Win 7 and i use COMODO its not bad and the scanning is quite quick although i had to turn of the defence + thing it uses coz it didnt like my computer games at all :S
I will agree w/ u! AVG is quiet slow! My PC: AMD Athlon 1800+ 1.53GHz, 256MB RAM I started my PC, it lagged like crazy! That's why I turned it off/disabled it at start-up. I will only tuen it on when I am scanning and yes it takes like forever! AVAT! Scanned more files than AVG! 300,000 files scanned in 1 hour! (59m12s) AVG: 40,000 2 hours! (2h10m52s) AVG is slow but somewhat effective. Anything more expensive or higher-end will lag my PC. I am currently using AVASt!
your PC is slow. AVG runs fine at my dad's workplace. You need more ram in your computer, 256MB is not enough for windows XP to run properly.
I have Microsoft Security Essentials. Very good: 1) Not so big. 2) Easy 3) Fast 4) Low CPU usage! last but not least: FREE!
I'l used AVG (the paid/full version) on my old pc , it gaved my brain freezes serious . The ui is packed with features that you even don't need... Also it's uses a BIG USE OF RAM . With annoying toolbars that only ruin your vision . Using AVG on my old XP machine was the worst thing i ever dit (sorry AVG Fans ) . I just spended 80% of my time on that Progam instead of doing something like playing a game or surfing on the internet I have now about 2 years NOD32 from Eset and i'l love it , never having trouble with reports . And it just feel i'm not using a AV , NOD32 does his work without bothering the user If you need a free a free AVG i should get Avira .
Oh for chrying out loud! AVG is really slow when it comes to scanning! 30,000 files = 2 hours. AVASt! on the other hand; 300,000 files = 1 hour and it found 60% more viruses than AVG! AVG is slow, even if they say that it's faster. AVG: SLOW, SLOW AND EPICLY SLOW! Post Merge: [time]1261516659[/time] If it doesn;t work, download it from AVG's download Updates page. There you can download updates, then there is somewhere where you can update from directory. Then you can update it without updating from the program! That's why AVG is partially good, it allows you to download updates! This is really good for PCs without Internet. Jsut load it onto a USB!
I used AVG on an old laptop once. I knew this laptop had viruses on it, because it was used in my assignment, and as it was old, I didn't really care. AVG turned up nothing, whereas Avast found a number of things that were detrimental to the Laptop. I did the same test again, on the same Laptop, using Avast and Nod32 -- Nod displaying a few more errors that could be fixed. I repeated the test again with AVG and Nod32, with AVG again showing nothing. It took a few days to do this, but all in all, I never used AVG for my main computers since, and now I have Nod32 paid for, and will continue to use it.
And Im happy with mines-I only use the best.I have not seen anything that can compete with it in terms of protection/disinfection/scan-times/price/ease of use. Ive not tried Microsoft Security Essentials, but Avira is much easier/faster than AVG and Avast.
£30 a year for the AV on its own. That is pretty high (per PC), but then again... I feel worth it for what you get.
