I just download pidgin for windows, install it and run. GTK+ is included as far as I know.

Ok...let's ask another question: how do I get windows live messenger to stay online -.-
    Here's the problem:-
I sign in to msn and a few seconds later I disconnect and it goes on and on. I'm using Vista home 32-bit, messenger version 14.0.8117.416 and just installed messenger plus to see if it fixes the problem and it did not. I'm using a broadband 3g USB modem. I've tried almost everything. I've downloaded Trillian, Pidgin, Miranda, aMSN, emesene and other. I've tried most every solution from reading through 10 pages of google with no success. I really need a solution, so windows and laptop experts, please help >< on a side note, the messenger has been able to stay connected on a few occasions since this problem started a week ago. It usually occurs around late at night but it's not consistent since it doesn't work on every night and that when I do stay connected, if I somehow got disconnected from my internet service, the messenger would go back to being a pain in the ass T.T

I'm somehow convinced that this is either a server connection problem and IP address issue but I'm not sure. If anyone can tell how to keep a constant/non-changing(something along those lines) IP so that I can try to see if it works. Thanks. I've spent ages and my whole month worth's of bandwidth to find a solution so if anyone can provide a working solution, I would really really really appreciate it.

you can't set a static IP address, you have to be given one and I doubt a mobile broadband operator will assign static addresses.

Owh...I see. So in other words unless windows live fix their server problem(assuming that that's the problem) I'm officially screwed? ==" $*%# MSN >< I'm so getting a MAC as my next laptop -.-

    getting a mac wouldnt help

as stated before, it could be latency on your connection. Are you able to get an external antenna for your dongle (external to the dongle, not necessarily outside)?

It's just a modem. Kinda like a mini handphone and you just connect it to your laptop's usb port. I don't think or rather I'm sure it isn't my internet as it has been working just fine until recently. Why isn't msn doing anything about this -.- and the thing is, you actually see yourself sign in, you can't do anything. Man this is really frustrating. If you google the problem plenty of other people have the same problem and it seems switching to Pidgin or Trillian won't fix the problem. I sure freaking hope this isn't permanent or long term ><

latency issues wont show up when browsing.

You could switch over to Jabber, and you won't have to deal with WLM's oddities. But of course, that would require the people you're chatting with to also be using Jabber.

I've been using the modem for over a year now and the internet has been unchanged and the msn suddenly has this problem? So, no, I don't think it's my internet. And even if my internet has issues, it usually lasts no more then 2-3 days.
Which is a problem when all your friends are using msn...I even tried to use AIM thinking I can chat with MSN users with AIM accounts but I was wrong. Damn msn, why can't you just let us have the choice of using the old msn while the new one is still so glitchy. Worse is that it seems windows live isn't even trying to do anything about it -.-

Hey, I think you're right. Some of my friends are experiencing the same problem and it seems we're using the same internet brand/type. I haven't confirmed this yet though >< but, thanks a lot for all the help you've given. Appreciates it.

    *hands out a cookie* xD
