I suggest you go and buy a portable game console and put pet stimulation games in it. This way you can play with different animals ;D

 

I still think the rat is the best option.

hahaha, i got it! Anybody remembers or knows this portable little pet? Its called Tamagochi or something. Its small, it doesn't smell, it evolves and it feels!

 

God dammit, just get a goldfish.

At least when it dies, you can replace it for a buck.
