this guy hacked a simple "hello world" message on the DSi 3 days after release. now THAT is some experience hacking right there. who knows how hard it would be for the 3DS.

Ever watch Mythbusters? They were given the most advanced fingerprint scanner to crack. They did it in such a simple way it was stupid. They took a print of the registered fingerprint, darkened it, scanned it and printed it out with a regular printer. It was then placed over the fingerprint scanner and ta-da, the lock opened.
Fingerprint technology is pretty much useless.

Most fingerprint scanners check for a pulse as well.

If you press down over the paper, it will get one anyway

    that won't fool them.

May I ask why? A pulse is quite easily mimicked as we all have one. I assume it would check for a slower one because a thief (or whoever) would more likely have a higher heart rate due to the tension and hope of not being caught.

In fact here is the Mythbusters video for you to see the fingerprint scanner get jacked three times http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LA4Xx5Noxyo

it checks for a pulse to make sure the finger is attached to a person that is alive.

That reminds me of something out of Artemis Fowl. I forgot if they solved it by sawing it off and pressing down with two guys and then stuck the thumb right back or what.

That was fiction though. I had no idea that fingerprint scanners do that. Are those special, or does every run-of-the-mill scanner do it?

Don't compare the 3DS with other systems in terms of Anti-piracy. No two systems are alike, each has to be hacked differently.

most decent ones do. your typical laptop biometric security device may not but any scanner that is actually designed to provide security will.

It's probably a different type that they used. The one that they used was rather crappy.

i thought they used the best in the market is it?

It was probably the best in the market at the time of filming it.

The 3DS will stop piracy in its tracks just like the PS1 did with their attempts at anti-piracy. Yeah, they're not going to do anything but slightly hinder us.

Maybe for a while, but eventually everything gets cracked. Just like the PS3 was "unhackable", but GeoHot "hacked" it. Then, a release of a debug mode made the PS3 an amazing beastly homebrew platform.

Everything has a weakness, just some weaknesses are harder to find than others!!

The 3ds is going to be hacked, the antipiracy thing is probably going a joke, its going to be some stupid program that throws out a super long equation with funky numbers that only the 3DS can decipher and solve. And then hackers are going to get this thing and start running an algorithm or something along those lines to crack it and then distribute patches for both games and emulators to fool the program.

And then the world will be back at Square 1.

Jesus fucking Christ, we reached that conclusion in the first page. Here's the problem I have with this topic, it's so off base it's not even funny, and because it's the same redundant knowledge that you either knew before this topic or were informed in at the first page.

Yeah, this topic pisses me off and so does the people posting in it.

I forgot to mention that people will hack the ______ no matter what because they can do that an no matter how hard ____________ tries to prevent it, the hackers will circumvent it.
