I don't really believe in the 2012 end of the world theory. The hysteria was only created by cults, extremist religious sects and the over-hyped media coverage. Now, people fear it more than ever because of those interpretations of Nostradamus' book Prophecies and the latest film by Roland Emmerich '2012'.

Even with our sophisticated technologies and extensive knowledge, we still do not understand ourselves and the universe as a whole. Even science has its own flaws and theories are just ideas that have not been proven yet.

Why should you even waste your life fearing something that you are not even sure will happen? We should just get on with our lives, hope for a brighter and peaceful future and if you believe in God, never stop praying.

I thought that the whole 2012 thing was about Planet X? You know, that planet that has the same magnetism as Saturn but is actually ten times bigger.

It's already stated that this one exists and will either pass us or collide with us around the end of 2012. NASA has confirmed this already and we can already feel all sorts of effects that planet has on ours according to some scientists like the weather changing. What they don't know however is what it will do when it gets here. There are a couple of theories on what might happen but until they are certain of the exact course that thing will take they can't say anything for sure.

    Here are some theories

    1. The planet will merely pass us. This could result in a) our polars will get switched which isn't a big deal since it has happened before. b) We get a nice meteor shower from all the meteorites that thing drags along due to it's magnetism. c) Nothing happens except that a few fanatics get disappointed.

    2. The planet will collide with our Sun which will result in a) Our sun gets destroyed which turns ours in a big ball of ice or b) We get a second sun...somehow, still don't get that one.

    3. It will collide with the moon which will screw up the currents and tides and causes all the fish to die.

    4. It will collide with us. Don't think I need to explain that one.

There are also people who believe there are Aliens on that thing and are going to visit us. I'm not even going there. Either they come in peace, come to do some anal probing or don't come at all. I don't know about you guys but I know what to bet my money on.

Further more about the whole 'it's on the Mayan calender' thing. I think you need to realise a couple of things. For starters that the Mayan calender is very different from ours and scientists and the like still don't really know how it works. The chances that they could get an exact date from that is highly unlikely.

When the sun has exhausted all of it's fuel and swells into a red giant completely engulfing the four inner planets, the world will cease to exist. Unless that happens in the year 2012 the world will go on pretty much the way it is today. I think that I have read a couple of posts on here about nuclear weapons, well the only problem with that is self-preservation. The greatest nuclear deterrent is mutually assured destruction. You kill us, we kill you....no one wins. It is rather sad to say that the world is no longer safe without the "bomb". Because as soon as one nuclear super power reduces it's current nuclear stockpile to zero, they would be obliterated by the others, no arsenal to retaliate with....sorry. I know that sounds rather cynical.....but that's just who I am.

End of the world could just mean the end of our species, you know, like extinction or our species might evolve to another homo something through natural selection. We will never really know what our fate will be. Its better to just go on with our lives and hope for the best.

Nothing is going to happen that day. There are tons of "Doomsday Prophecies" out there that say the world is going to end. Some of those prophecies declared that the world would've ended before now.....we're still here.
People need to quit worrying about the end of life, or time, or whatever and just enjoy the time we have and make each and every day the best we possibly can. Life is for you to enjoy, not for you to worry about the end of it.

ok to those you believe that the Mayan Prophecy is right are really missing a point

how the hell do you want the Mayans to predict the extinction of the human race, if they can't even predict their own extinction?

The supervolcano at Yellowstone National Park will erupt and the ejected matter will blot the skies, kill vegetation, and smother mankind.

... you know after reading through this thread , the mayan calander ending at 2012 seems to come up alot....
now correct me if im wrong but the mayans are a dead civilisation , and im really quite surprised noone really thought about the fact that maybe they ended the calander at 2012 because that was a good few thousnads of years ahead of them.....common sense kinda comes in abit and says ok im sure thatll do for now.

these theories of the end of the world , so many of them are farfetched with not alot of logical thought gone into them.

As I said, how can they predict the extinction of the human race, if they can't even predict their own extinction
