when i bought resident evil 5 brand new, capcom already had my money. this means i already have ownership of the game when i bought that game. this means i have every right to sell the product to someone else, thus transfering my ownership rights to someone else under a certain condition. that certain condition is obtaining partial value back for that product. that is instead of having someone paying me the retail price of the product brand new, he is paying me at a reduced price that is lower then the retail cost.

why would this transfer of ownership be a problem with these game companies if they already got their money from my purchase of the game from he beginning?

you are one step closer to losing your right as a consumer to have ownership of the product you own. ironically, there are people who support this idea.

That would be because they fail. Businesses sell items on to other business to make a profit... Like it's their business who you sell a product to and whether you make a profit or not?

Basically anyone selling games in a car boot sale is instantly one step closer to losing these rights? How about *Beep Beep Beep Beep*

What do you mean 'losing your rights'. Like losing your rights and going to jail or being fined, or losing your rights as in they're going to take the game away?

I was wondering about that though. Is it really illegal to sell a game like in a yard sale or in a used game store or something?

Actually you never owned the game. Software is licensed, the ownership does not transfer from the publisher to the purchaser, the publisher just grants the purchaser a license to use the software subject to certain conditions. This is how it has always been in the software world.

It's actually a good idea. Buy the game new, get full content for free. Buy it used after another user has already used the full content, you don't get access to the free expanded stuff.

Like it or not, game companies need to make a profit off of their product or else they can't/won't create these games. Large title releases like Mass Effect 2 take a lot of time and money to create. If 500,000 people able to purchase the game, willing to purchase the game, want to play the game, why should they be willing to sell 300,000 copies and just let people sell the copies to other users when they are done with no profit going back to the game creator?

So this way, even if someone buys the game used for an extremely discounted price, they can still get access to everything and the game creator still gets 10 dollars.

.... so your friend cant get full access to the game that they borrow from you, and vice-versa. Me and my friend offen borrow each other games.

so in order to combat used game consumer, they also hurt people that share games with thier friend and game rental services.

If you want full access to the game, purchase the content yourself for a huge 10 dollars! If you want to borrow it from a friend, live with only getting basic gameplay.

Really, there isn't any difference between sharing the game between friends and giving the game to a complete stranger.

This sounds about right, I mean sure I buy plenty of second hand games (especially ps3 games) so this helps them out.

    Developers need money too XD

Ultra...why do you post such negitive stories...why not something we can chat without trying to flare us up for once?

ya imagine when Sony decide to make the ending of GoW3 as free DLC that people get when they buy the game, so nobody can play the game without knowing the ending unless you pay (for a game that already been paid).

sound like you dont have any close friend in real life.

Except for everyone in the family of the original purchaser, and anyone who plays the game with the original purchaser.

Would you rather they have the whole game locked out like an MMO game which requires an account to register to play the game? Or would you rather bits and pieces of the game be locked out until you pay a very small fee if you didn't purchase the game yourself?

maybe you can, but i just cant play a game that doesnt have an ending, its like reading a book borrow from library with the final chapter missing.

ya, when a game release that i want to borrow from my friend, i need to spend 2 days in his house playing on his PS3 and vice-versa

If you want to own the game, either buy the game, or get it from a friend and pay the small fee for the added content. If you want to play the game without paying for it, then live with the basic package rather than all the bells and whistles.

    Simple as that.

ya its simple, for someone who doesnt have any friends to share thier game with.

I don't know why you are so hung up on this made up point. It's like you don't have any legitimate arguement so you have to resort to attacking the person you are arguing with.
Oh, ya, that's right, that's exactly what you are doing.

its not an attack if its true. You clearly say with dont share with friend otherwise pay some fee which kill the point of sharing with friends to begin with.

so its simple for someone who doesnt have any friends to share thier game with because they dont have to.

Except it's nothing more than a logical fallacy, ad hominem. "You don't have any friends, lol, so of course it's easy for you!"
The game is playable by your "friends". And if they want to play the full game they can purchase added content themselves (or use your account with the added content enabled).

    calvin:

Why do you feel so entitled to be able to share games with friends? What makes your friends so special that they don't need to pay the full price for the full experience? What makes the developers unworthy of a little compensation for everyone who enjoys the fruits of their labour?

For the record, not having friends to share with is not the same as not sharing with friends.
