    This.

...well prehaps there is some pc software out there, but to learn a guitar the PROPER way is to pay for elssons, or grab a real guitar, and ethier try to learn for yourself and screw around, or go to youtube.

    I wouldn't give him ideas...

He needs to learn how to correctly pick the strings, something a ds game can never do.

there is actually a 'cheat' way of tuning a guitar so that instead of holding down different combinations of strings to change the notes, you hold down ALL the strings on different frets.

You're talking about a capo, right?
That isn't really cheating; it's only used in key changes so individual notes still have to be held down in chords, and the guitar still has to be tuned properly. "The Sore Feet Song" is an example of how a capo is used; otherwise, you'd have to constantly hold down all the strings at the 4th fret with your index, which gets quite painful after a time.

    *On-Topic*
I wouldn't recommend learning how to play guitar from a DS game; although Jam Sessions is handy for chord references.
Instead, you should head over to ultimate-guitar.com and check out the tutorials they've got; maybe start looking up tabs to your favourite songs. The only thing which really matters when playing any instrument is keeping a steady practice routine, so spend a few hours every day just building up strength in your fingers.

Isn't that Rhythm Heaven in the US? All it has is lessons on how to scratch the DS screen on time.

Jam Sessions 2 won't teach you how to play chords, but it WILL teach you which strings to pluck.

Even though it's mostly useless, it CAN be helpful to find what notes a song has when playing songs by ear.

Guitar Hero can be helpful too. You can figure out note timing, depending on what songs are on the Guitar Hero you play.

Seriously, don't encourage him to take lessons from a game. It's inaccurate and unreliable that can produce bad habits. You better take a guitar lesson or find some guitar videos lessons and please don't take shortcuts.

I'm not saying to take lessons from a game... I'm saying some games can help with whatever lessons he takes, though not by much.
