    Review this game I shall,

So the fourth installment of Soul Calibur was released not too long ago and those who have Preordered it will receive a few extra goodies as well. For those not familiar to the series, its a fighting game which focuses on more weapon based combat than hand to hand. There are a reasonable amount of characters to use plus players will have a special guest character depending which console you play it in. For those playing it on the 360, your guest character will be Yoda, yes Yoda the short and loved by some(not me) jedi from Star Wars. And Yoda fans may be pleased to know that there are voice acting for Yoda that is similar to the one from the movies. For the Ps3, player's guest character will be none other than......Darth Vader(I honestly wanted this guy instead of Yoda. Surprise surprise, I always route for the dark side). So now lets Delve deeper into the game shall we.

Hmm.. I shall use my force power to remove her bra

Oops, how embarrassing, my bra slipped off.

The graphics in this game is certainly gorgeous. Vibrant and colourful stages are available for you to fight in and character design are done nicely, that also means for the female characters, well lets just say their voluptuous body are much more defined. A reasonable amount of gamemodes are available some of which are Story mode, Tower of Lost Souls (basically a short or long depending on the level story mode without the story), training mode and so on. There are also quite a number or unlockables though I must say for me, it's a bit too little. Those of you who might know the SC series will know that you can also customise your character in this game, buying accessories and weapons to ultimately make your character stronger. If that is not enough, there is currently one download from Xbox live (it will cause you 150 microsoft points i think) to get a few more items from previous Soul Calibur games.

So, you also have the option to customize your character. Putting on accessories and dress aret just to make your character prettier or funny, they also add effects and determine how much skill points you can spend. For the 360, more items can be unlocked through completing achievements.

Apart from that, Soul Calibur has a somewhat different story mode. In most fighting games, you advance through levels fighting one enemy at a time. Soul Calibur focusses on fighting 3 maybe four enemy per level. This means your health will not recover until you have vanquished all enemies. Further more, if you are skill or lucky enough to smack your opponent out of the ring, you will win in an instant. Though this complicates things for you as well as some of your moves may involve dashing around and may mean dashing out of the ring. Though once you have won, you can celebrate by jumping off the ring. Yes, you will not lose.

Now some of you might still be wondering the Special guest characters. I might not have mentioned that both the 360 and PS3 will get another guest character, The Apprentice a character from the upcomin game; Star Wrs Unleashed. Now between Darth Vader and Yoda, though I cant exactly tell you how good he is on the count I do not own a PS3 but I do hear that he is quite balanced. As for Yoda, as you may imagine, it is slightly harder to hit him due to his height. He also has a nice string of combos which can be pulled of easily meaning the buttons to initiate the combo is not too complicated.

    Oh you think THAT hurt?

Finally, as you can imagine for most other fighting games, Soul Calibur has not much of a story. Every characters story made differs a little but still ends up about the same at the final level. Though having said that, I am not exactly affected by it as for most fighting games, all I am concerned about is fighting. Aside from that, most of you may also know that most fighting games have horrible voice acting and Soul Calibur is no exception. Also, some charater's scripts/ lines sounds a little tacky.

    FINAL WORDS:

Despite some of it's flaws, Soul Calibur is an awesome game. The interface is beautiful, everything works well. The music is also great, featuring many orchestrated sound tracks and not to mention playable characters from Star Wars are enough to keep you entertained from a fair amount of time. Plus, Soul Calibur is those type of quick games meaning anytime you are bored, you can just pop the game in the disc and kill time instantly.

Presentation (9/10): Beautiful graphics and interface had already done it's job to draw me to this game.
Graphics (9/10): Stunning environment, great lighting and rendering work
Sound (6/10): Soundtrack may be great but the voice acting is what really gets to me
Gameplay (8/10): Controls definitely works well, nice string of combos you can perform
Lasting appeal (8/10): As a fighting game, it is the type you can play once in a while for a long time

    Overall: (40/50)

Well it definitely bounces. Even on character select screen where the character is not in motion, the boobs bounces for some reason..

as long as its not like the DOA bouncing (PSX), then that's fine.

is this game worth buying or renting?

for the record, voice acting isn't supposed to be amazing. just like the Dynasty Warriors voice acting, it has to be corny and stupid.

yeah it is worth it to me, though if you preordered it would be better. I got a nice hard metal case for my cd plus bonus dvd and a booklet on character bios. And if you observe metal gear's voice acting, then you will see how good voice acting can truly affect a game.

Voice acting does make a difference for certain games.

Even though this game has horrible voice acting, does it really make or break the game?
Not really. The voice acting isn't all that important.

For games like this one and Dynasty Warriors games, the voice acting doesn't particularly matter.

However, voice acting is very important when it comes to RPGs or anything that has a storyline and character development.

If this game had better voice acting, would it make it 10x better? or just a little bit?

...Which reminds me, now that this game is out, my friend just got done with classes on its release date, and I'm going to have to go buy it now.

Well just a bit. To be honest I really dont watch the movies. As you know this is a fighting game and all I care about is fighting so whenever a movie pops up i press skip. However once in a while I just watch for fun and well, it is a little lame. But yeah it doesnt really spoil the game definitely. Its just nice if they did better acting. And I forgot to mention, I like this game based on how I feel. If you end up buying it and not liking it dont blame me but to me yes, I like it.

You can watch the preview for yourself at this site. This is where I buy my games. Just scroll down a little and play the movie.

i am seriously pissed off that i had to fight the apprentice as vader.

vader is too damn slow to do anything so I just spammed [ ] and X together to get him to throw the apprentice...over and over and over. Somehow I got lucky and I won.

yoda fights so much better than vader despite his short reach.

    edit:
one more thing, does the xbox let you have the option to install the game to your harddrive or does it just play it off of the disc?

my ps3 lets me install the game onto my harddrive.
hopefully that gets rid of the long load times.

No not that I know of. By the way you just got the game? Well I would definitely love darth vader than Yoda. But the Apprentice is worth unlocking. He is relatively strong and fast.

like i said, unlocking the apprentice with yoda was soooo much easier than with vader.

at least with yoda, you can get a few hits off before dying.

i had to be a cheapass and throw him over and over since that was the only thing he can't block.

vader's attacks are so easy to counter.
the apprentice fights so much better than vader.

i am farther into the game than my friend and he has had it since release day.
i have more stuff unlocked but he is further up on the tower.
