With this computer, should I even try ePSXe?

  1. Intel Core Duo @ 1.66GHz (two CPUs)
    Approx. 2Gb RAM

Yeah, it's got a crappy integrated graphics card.

I got FFT to run once. The FPS was way too high, so I went into the options menu and clicked the appropriate buttons to fix that. Since then, everything I've tried has ended in failure--black screens. Can my computer not run PS1 games? Should I just give up now?

Keep in mind that I can't upgrade the graphics card. University-issue computer.

What plugins are you using? It might just be a case of you needing to tweak the ones you're currently using or using a different plugin altogether.

The recommended plugins are like this:
If that doesn't work, you could always try a different emulator.

Don't even bother trying, you're never going emulate a PSX with an Intel integrated graphics processor. Yes, they're that crap.

  4. That's really weird. Now it works fine, using Pete's DX6 D3D Driver 1.76.

Actually, I think I know what happened. For some reason, I have to use the task manager to close ePSXe. Just closing it normally makes the window go away, but the program's still running. I must have had a bunch of ePSXe's running last time I tried... That would explain why my computer froze up.

It depends on the game. Some PSX games might work on your computer.
