Is there any way to undo system restore?. I let my cousin "fix" my PC because the DVD drive is not recognized, as last resort he activated system restore. Unfortunately it did nothing good. I lost my copy of DOTA and ebRO, and i get this agitated feeling that my PC slowed down a bit. Please help.

Yes there is. Run system restore again, this time select "undo last restoration" at the beginning. Run the wizard and that should undo the restore that your cousin made. Did the DVD drive work after it was restored? If not, it COULD be that it failed completely.

No it didn't. Iw as worried about the DVD drive because It stopped working ever since the PC was re-formatted. Its very troublesome because I cant archive old files to DVD roms. Now all i can do is delete them when my hard disk is full.

I think your DVD drive has failed and the timing is a coincidence. You'll have to replace it.

It would be nice to run a system restore again, sadly i never took notice of this feature and never bothered to create restore points frequently... :( :-[ :'( :'( :'( :'(

i found this from another forum. woot

Right click on "My Computer" select "Properties" click on the "Hardware" tab and click on the "Device Manager" button.
In Device Manager go down to where it says "DVD/CD-ROM drives" click on the small box next to it to open a drop-down list showing all CD and DVD drives connected to your computer.
Right click on the drive that is giving you the trouble and click on uninstall, when asked to confirm device removal click OK.
shut down the computer and "Disconnect" the burner from your computer. then re-boot the computer and wait for XP to start-up and after everthing is up and running , shut it down computer again. and re-connect the burner, Now start up the computer and wait for XP to detect the "new" drive and assign the proper driver.

    question: whats a burner?

Either a CD-R Drive, or a DVD-R Drive, a CD or DVD Drive that has the ability to write or "burn" CD's or DVDs on CD-R discs, CD-RW discs &/or DVD-R discs.

Usually you look at the drive for the symbols, which show what you can burn etc.

delete all the devices visible in that screenshot (both expanded categories) and reboot several times. I can't guarantee it will fix the burner though.

when you say "delete" do you mean un-install? or just highlight them all and press the delete button?
