your windows install probably has some corrupted files (or theres something wrong with that folder). Try running chkdisk and sfc /scannow

Yes I did, then i was told it cant run when windows was open so I had the option to reschedule the check which I pressed, then I rebooted then nothing happened.

yes, none of the diagnostic programs work. Personally I'd be thinking about a reinstall now.

will reinstalling be something like reformatting? would I have to worry about my files? or is it just simply reinstalling windows simple as that?

reinstalling can involve reformatting but it doesn't have to. You can usually do an 'over the top' reinstall which simply wipes out your windows folder and reinstalls, this will generally fix corrupt files. Backups are always recommended no matter whether you do an over the top or a reformat. Note that even with an 'over the top', some programs (notably microsoft office) will need reinstalling as well.

Okay thank you for the information. I'll just have my cousin do this. He was the one who set up my laptop and reformatted my computer before.

You should do this yourself as it is very easy :)

IMHO every computer user/owner should learn how to format their hard drive & install their OS because after all, it is your machine so you should also know how to take care of it :)

If you're using Windows XP, go to this page & print out the information within so you can follow along during the actual process:

    http://bootstrike.com/WindowsXP/cleaninstallxp.php

If you have Windows 7, go here:

    http://www.techtalkz.com/windows-7/514412-windows-7-installation-guide-tutorial.html

*Note that you can skip the first part about preparing the .ISO Image because you most likely have a copy of the Win7 Installer disk anyway :)
