Anybody using the consumer preview yet? I've downloaded it but I don't know whether to try installing it. What happens to it when W8 is released for real?
I put it on a partition anyway just to try....and its shit. I can't get anything to work properly and I can't get to boot my old OS, there's no boot option. Good job I have a laptop too.
Yeah, so that's why I always test in virtual machines : Anyway, I tried it out a while ago and it was total shit. The UI looks horrible IMO and it just isn't desktop-friendly anymore. I think Microsoft should release this as separate product..
Oh meh, indeed. They are both really different worlds. Attaching a keyboard to a smartphone/tablet is okay, but don't threat it as a computer then. That's why I think Microsoft really should release it as a version for Tablets or even for the good ol' pocket PCs.
yes, but its a stupid idea because all 3 devices are used for entirely different purposes and are interacted with using entirely different means. they're basically trying to force a smartphone interface onto devices that it's not suited for.
I've just upgraded to Windows 7 from Windows XP & to me Win7 isn't as "user friendlier" as XP is. For one thing you can't do a chkdsk of your primary (OS) Drive/partition on the fly like you could on XP. To do it, you must schedule it on reboot as if you added the /f function even if you just want to check your drive's integrity & not fix it. Defraging in Win7 is such a time consuming & painful thing too, unlike on XP where it is faster. If you don't have Pro or Ultimate, you really can't shut Windows Backup up if you inadvertently activated it in the first place like a n00b Why the hell was "create a restore point" separated from the system restore main menu? Why doesn't Windows Media Player 12 create an automatic playlist of all of your media once you add them to its library? Back on XP I loved WMP 11 because whenever you add a media file to your library it automatically adds it to its mega playlist so you could in effect play all your videos or music at player startup. With WMP12 this feature was removed which is such a pain. On folder management, why the hell did they remove the "copy to" & "move to" context options!? This one is actually a very big dick move on Microsoft's part, but thanks to a few knowledgeable people a work around that adds those functions back is available for download on the net
1. I guess you can do a check of your HDD though, not sure how. There must be a tool anyway. 2. Yeah, formatting in XP is hell a lot faster then in 7. 3. I always use Professional (for 32-bit systems) or Ultimate (for 64-bit systems), so yeah, didn't notice it. 4. Why the hell is it even there as I just remove them afterwards? 5. Never used WMP, always installed iTunes on top of it the instant I've finished installing drivers. 6. AFAIK the Copy To is still there, yet haven't used Windows in ages, so could be wrong. I'm happy with my Macintosh, I think Windows is getting more horrible with every release available.
I really wanted to go for a legit copy of Pro or Ultimate but they're too expensive Home Premium itself is already 6,000Php while Pro is 9.5k & Ultimate is at fuckingly expensive 13k! :'(
Yes I admit I pirate my games but when it comes to my OS I want it to be 100% legit because your OS is the backbone of your computer & if it is pirated you can't get critical updates for it. I know not many will believe me for saying this but I managed to stay virus free & not requiring a reformat for almost two years when I got myself a legit copy of XP. Whereas when I still used a pirated copy, a month was the longest I could stay safe even if I have AV & anti-malware programs running for me.
ultimate is not worth the money. the only difference between ultimate and pro is 2-3 features that 99% of people will never use.
Windows itself is not worth the money. What do you get? Aero and the EXE compatibility layer, nothing much more what other OS' can't do...
WinXP mode sounds interesting though. A lot of computer games are meant for the PC (windows based computers) though, including emulators.
It lags like hell and is as bad as Windows could ever be. You can't even shut it down... Lol, quite a lot of games are cross-platform. And there's alternative emulators all 'round, and if not, there's Wine. Works pretty fine for emulators.
