there's always problems when a service pack gets released. That's why I dont update until a couple of months after release.

I saw this as a 500 Mb something file when I checked onto Windows Update.... I "agreed" to download it but after a couple of minutes, it's done, installed, restart, etc....

what?! that can't be right, I can't download something of that size in a matter of less than 15 minutes considering my net connection...

That wasn't it then. I think it was 700mb

It either predownloaded without your knowledge (yes, windows update still does stuff without your knowledge, even when told not to) or you didnt need the full service pack download so it only downloaded the parts you needed.

    That might be it.

OS Name: Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate
    Version: 6.1.7601 <--- This it?
    Build Type: Multiprocessor Free

it usually says service pack one on the end of the OS name line, so I'd say probably not.

Well that's the build number. It was 7600, now it's 7601.

And yeah, I have the Service Pack 1 when I checked the basic page for Windows properties.
