This has happened multiple times now...I have purchased windows 7 professional for my desktop (Have the box in front of me), my Toshiba came with backup disks, and my Lenovo came with backup disks...ALL LEGIT copies of windows..I update to SP1, it gives me the black background saying windows is not activated down at the bottom right...On all 3 LEGIT copies of windows...

With the Toshiba and Lenovo, since I use backup disks, it has update settings preset, so it always installs SP1...I've fixed the desktop to not install it though..

Anything I can do to fix the 2 laptops? :(

Or try giving them a ring.

I do that, though it won't accept the serials...Without SP1 it does.

If I give them a ring, they'll probably press charges on me for half the shit i'll say...Bad idea...

Its up to you.My IE doesnt take 45 seconds to boot up now(about 3 secs),but my Laptop takes about 90 secs to shut down(used to be 30 secs).

Ive an image anyway if anything goes wrong.

He has 8GB of ram, which XP does not support.

Either way though, he has been having allot of issue, why not pirate Windows 7...
True, some laptops do support XP even if it has 8-16GB...
But, it all has to do with the brand, mainly...
My cousin has an AlienWare with XP and 8GB, and it runs like a charm...

Either he has the very poor quality XP 64bit version, or his computer is not using all 8GB of ram. XP cannot address more than 4GB of total Video and System ram

installing XP on a laptop designed for vista or 7 is ill advised. It's not a straightforward process and theres no guarantee the laptop will be fully functional under XP

Brand has zero relevance. it has to do with the limitations of 32 bit memory addresses and windows not being able to utilise PAE.
