amd is going to release their barcelona cpu sometime this week hopefully. but the question is, will they deliver the goods as well as offer the same performance as before?? please note that the cpu being released will be server cpu's, however, it can give us a guess as to how well phenom or whatever it's called will perform.
I'm pretty sure they're not going to release a new product, with it being as crappy as before. That is just my answer, I haven't studied the chip though. -Jarrett
When the Barcelona chips are released for desktops they will be re-branded as Phenom. What's better than the Barcelona chips are the new expected Intel chip - the 45nm Penryn architexture quad-cores called the Xeons. These babies will have up to 12MB of L2 cache and clock up to 3GHz stock.
xeons are ancient, they've been around since the PIII, and they don't really compare to AMD's offering as they are not desktop chips.
According to Australian PC Authority Xenon will be the new name given to the aforementioned 45 nanometre quadcores for desktop computers. This is Intel's response to the Barcelona/Phenom release.
I was able to test the Barcelona CPU today. Believe it or not, for server power, I LOVE IT They worked great, and benchmarks reported excellent performance results!
