Ellow! About...a year or so ago, my Wii stopped playing disks. I was in the middle of Rune Factory and the Can't Read Disk error popped up... >_> My roommates laughed.... Anyways! I talked to some people and most consoles tend to randomly stop playing disks and you gotta send it in to get a repair or replacement. For Wii's it costs $75. Well, I decided to wait until I had the money to send it in and resigned myself to playing downloaded games...then I rememered I have the tools to take it apart...and my best friend google. It's completly unhacked. I have cleaned the lens a lot. It also seems to randomly play Gamecube games everynow and then. Google has failed me in finding a way to fix it myself. So if anyone knows why this happens and/or how to fix myself, let me know! I will forever be in your debt!

You update it? That usually fixes error messages, especially the 002/004 errors.

Find a lens cleaner? I got one that claims it cleans ANY lens, so it should clean the Wii's lens.

After that, see if the problem persists. It's completely virgin, so you shouldn't have any homebrew-related issues, and is most likely just a dirty lens.

Also, I wouldn't recommend taking the Wii apart and cleaning the lens that way. You might end up scratching the lens and then have to get a lens replacement. But if you're going to go that route, might as well just buy a whole new Wii since you'll be waiting and waiting and waiting for $75 + shipping.

Speaking of lens cleaning, this may be what you need - https://www.nintendo.com/consumer/systems/wii/en_na/acc/cleaningKit.jsp

I'm wondering if just a generic lens cleaner will work.

Most likely will. That's just the one that I found before.

    Wows...I missed that completely...
I have no idea then besides updating the console...
Best send it away, I guess.

I'm pretty sure he took it apart and cleaned it that way, which most likely scratched the lens.

I wasn't under the impression he'd actually taken it apart yet, but was just planning to. But you might be right.

It sounds like he has not yet.

I have taken it apart, but not to clean the lens, I have a disk for that. I have tried cleaning it, and me taking it apart was after it stopped working. I got no where near the lens.

Error are either the lens (in thsi case you dont get an error only disc cannot/couldnt be read before even launching the game) or the CIOS and MIOS get pimp my wii, launch it go to perform test and fix problems click yes to all and boot your games again, see if it works now.

Oh and dont try taking apart the wii, nintendo went out of it's way to make it nigth impossible to disarm it (talking from experience here) yu migth also want to get at least a 250GB EHDD and format it to WBFS so you dont have to pay 75$ again for the lens switch oh and a plus there since it seems your wii is hacked nintendo punishes those who have hacked wii's.
