wifi questions for DSi

I have a few questions about going online with my DSi

1. Will going online try and update my firmware automatically? Or is that only if I download software from the DSiWare store?

2. If I backed up my games would I be able to still go online with them playing from a flashcart? (online battles and such)

 

1. If you don't go to the store or update your firmware intentionally, you won't have any problems with playing online.

2. If you update your DSi to 1.4 and don't have a compatible card, then your cart won't work anymore.
Do you have a 1.4 compatible flash cart?

 

I do, I was just wondering if the online components of games would still work.

 

Yes, the games themselves will still work.

It's not like the PSP where you need to have the current firmware to play online.
