I really want to connect my DS to the internet so I can play COD (and see what the fuss is about), but since I wasn't raised on computers I really don't know how to. All I know is that my internet is set on WPA security and I need it to be WEP. Also, just in case its important, I have 4 other devices on my net connection, my wii and 3 laptops. I'm using a Thomson TG782T router and I know the URL to get into the gateway menu. Thanks in advance!
The DS will only connect to WEP.... you would have to change your router security settings meaning all other devices would need to be setup/connected again... But WEP is not as secure as WPA and could be hacked within minutes.
Could be, but doesn't mean it will be. You can create a network that is secure enough using WEP, the other features of your router like MAC filtering, limiting the number of devices allowed to be assigned IP Addresses by your router's DHCP server, and turning off your SSID Broadcast. You should also look at the population density around you. I live out in the country, and i have about five neighbors, all but one live over 1000 feet away, the other is the parents of my best friend in high school, who also have their own wifi. There is no one around me that would be able to try and use my network anyway. So you just have to weigh the pros and cons. Pros, all your devices would be able to connect, including your DS. Cons, someone might be able to use your internet connection if they wanted to brute force your WEP key, and connect to your network. (It can happen with WPA as well, but not as easily). For what its worth i changed mine to WEP and its fine, also make sure your WEP key is not a dictionary word, and include upper and lowercase letters and numbers. this will make it harder for someone to get it. every now and then i check the router settings just to see if there is anything that has connected that shouldnt of.
