My computer is running Windows 7 Home Premium. It was purchased and installed almost a year ago. For a long time, it was working great, then about four months ago, an interesting problem popped up. Whenever trying to access a folder, an HDD, or anything of the like, I would get a message that there was no associated program or application with which to open it. Obviously, that is a little unnerving, especially when after, it began to happen with some applications too. Went ahead and just did a System Restore back a few days just to make sure, and the issue seemed to be resolved. Then, a couple weeks ago, it popped up again. System Restored it away. About a week ago, it happened again. Googled it up for different solutions that time, as it started getting annoying having to System Restore so often, especially as it was becoming less effective. The handful of solutions included fixing up the registry. Took the steps, it did nothing. Just System Restored again. Three days ago, it happened again, same thing. Then it happened again the next day. System Restored. Finally, it happened again yesterday. This time we went ahead and tried to repair with the installation disc. I guess it did a fully installed the OS again, I'm not sure, as my brother went ahead and did that. I guess when it was going, it found the .NET Framework was busted to hell and that was about it in terms of problems with in the OS. Since then, it has started working fine again, and I think even a little bit faster. Most annoying and least documented problem on the internet though, I swear.
this is unfortunate, I was hoping windows 7 had done away with the need to periodically reinstall to keep the OS working. Having said that, windows 98SE was so bad that I had a script that completely automated the process so it would run while I was at supper.
