http://kotaku.com/5313981/check-out-korean-team-fortress-2-rip+off-gameplay-footage i can't figure out why this is a bad thing? during the 32bit and prior, consoles often had clones and generic games.
i haven't heard of either games, but to me rip off's are considered worse now because there is a whole lot more you can do with a video game than you use to be able to do. With everything you can do, ripping off another game just shows lack of dedication and a half ass job to try to earn a quick easy buck, instead of using all the great new technology to create an original innovative game. Back during the 32bit and prior games, I'm assuming the technology wasn't as complex so what you could do with a video game was more limited, making rip offs inevitable. I'm not saying rip offs aren't inevitable today, but they were probably more so back then.
its kind of bad when a rip off is better than the original. funny too. Like Custom Robo Arena is pretty much a rip off of transformers and medabots...and its a lot better than both in my opinion. i don't care if a game is a rip off of another game, as long as a games good and fun to play than I'm happy with it.
Medabots has alot in common with custom robo, but you need to think-which came out first? As for transformers-totally different-they transformer on a regular basis and cannot change parts in such a mannar. ...for me, while simmerlar games are ok, rip offs are un-original and may be worse than the one they ripped off... I hate un-original games-seriously-you can still come up with more ideas, I'M LOOKING AT YOU EA!
it's actually very hard to do something original these days, most everything has already been done in some shape or form. Plus, the tendency these days is to maximise profit at the expense of everything else, and its much cheaper to copy something popular than to actually try and be innovative. To an extent, it's also safer; you aren't pushing out the boundaries or doing something that has a high chance of not succeeding.
Re: why is it wrong today to have \"rip offs\" or clones or generic? good point about transformers, i completely forgot custom robo was out for the N64, Game Boy Advance and Gamecube. I remember playing medabots for the GBA and Custom Robo Arena is my first Custom Robo game to play, so my bad i forgot about the previous games. Post Merge: [time]1247669321[/time] it is cheaper to copy something popular, but theres also a risk no one with buy their game because its like the game they copied...
true and the fact that its cheaper to make also would result in less money lost if the game did flop opposed to developing an innovative game that no one baught
why do people consider it a bad thing? the reporters and the posters of that article and the many articles you can find on the net from googling, you will find people who will say that this company is copying a game from that company and you'll also see many repliers for that article also agree that it's a bad thing. to me, i have no knowledge as to why they consider this such a bad thing. if you refer back to the 32bit and prior generation of gaming, you'll notice that there is often a clone or copy cat of a game and it was okay to have them. but today, it's considered a shame. why do people consider this. if you're going to say lazy then most would fall victim. as someone has mentioned, even the movie and music makers copy or clone some other person's work and ideas. michael jackson with the movie music video and eveyone else followed those ideas and yet no one says that they are being lazy. i feel like something retarded is going on in the video game world. what it is or who it is i don't know.
For the most part, the consumers, mainly the "hardcore" <-- I still think thats a really stupid word to describe them with... Anyway Rip-offs and copies are inevitable, a lot of the time people make rip-offs unintentionally, it's a lot harder to come up with something original now then it used to be, basically because back in arcade and even NES days, not that much had been done in the first place.
