That all depends on which ones you played. You do realise that Zelda: Phantom Hourglass is completely different from Zelda: Ocarina of Time, right? So which versions didn't you like? And what kind of games do you like?

Some dragonquest aren't as good as others, play 8 or 9 for an hour each, give it a chance to get going, and you will like them(if you like rpg's).
Im not keen on zelda games I think they are just ok, not amazing.

Usually they're so popular because they're well-made, solid games with decent stories behind them. I'm digging Castlevania at the moment.

    Wasn't this thread enough....

    http://forum.romulation.net/index.php?topic=46704.0

....that you had to make another one?

So in that regard, let me just quote my post on your other thread:)

As for Dragon Quest games there are three reasons why I love 'em:

    1. AKIRA TORIYAMA!!!! A.K.A. Mr. Dragon Ball Z creator :) Yes you read that correctly, the Character & monster Art designer for all of the Dragon Quest games is none other than Akira Toriyam himself. If this is not a good enough reason, then I guess YOU ARE a Naruto Fan boy.

    2. Awesome story - Every Dragon Quest game has an exceptionally good story, usually about bloodline, traditions & heritage, kinda like with the Castlevania games.

    3. Dragon Quest IS teh father of console RPGs. If Dungeons & Dragons invented RPGs in general, Dragon Quest was teh first to use the concept & bring it into the video gaming age!

Can you give us details/reasons as to why you didn't enjoy them?
Also, as said above, which games did you play? Some are a lot more enjoyable than the others.

I didn't enjoy the DS Zelda games as much as the earlier titles (not due to the controls, they were fine), they just seemed way too small with all that filler traversing via train and boat.

thank you for all of your replies..hehe...

@dills2 - no, i'd played dragon quest heavenly bride, 3 hours, castlevania aria of sorrow 4 hours, and zelda 1 hour(^^)...but i still can't find why are these game are so popular, i guess it just not my taste, tnx btw...

@FreudianLemur - hmm, i just played phantom hour glass, and i just don't like action puzzle game, i like more of RPG elements..DQV is RPG but i don't like the graphics, the monsters, and the 1st person turn based...hehe... but i think it's an awesome game..tnx

@msg - i wud try DQIX next week i think , i love the gameplay of it i guess....i love ragnarok job system so i think it wud be epic...^^...i dont know 8...tnx

@Suiseiseki - i think so too, stories and then gameplay followed by graphics, then sounds, thats my standard... i really love vampires theme, so castlevania is cool, but i dont like the semi-rpg with button smashing 2d platforming, just wasn't my taste...i'd played the aria for 4 hours and just annoyed bec. of the monsters and difficulty...hehe...

@Cahos Rahne Veloza - sorry for that, and sorry that i dont reply on the thread that i made last time...hehe...i love the universe too, but just don't enjoyed the games...T_T...stories are the things that drives me to play it, but the type of gameplay too..gameplay wasn't enough for me, it's okay, but not epic for me...hey, but that's just me...hell yeah , i love dragon balls, that's the anime i grew up, Mr.Satan & fat Boo is the best...nyahaha...but i think the artwork must be change IMO, i just don't like the artwork anymore...sorry for that..in the stories, i love good stories, that's why i love final fantasy(though 7 is overrated for me the best for me is FFX, for it's simple yet complicated story) .tnx for the replies...hehe...

@Usoppu - i think gameplay and the presentation of dialogs, i'd played FFVII,FFIV,FFX,FFIX and FFVI will be next(im waiting for the DS version of VI and V, but weren't coming in DS, it's for 3DS...-_-), also TWEWY, enjoyed it, 112 hours for it!..haha..im playing disgaea DS ryt now...hehe...tnx

TNX to all, i will try DQIX..BTW, im playing Disgaea DS with 36hours of it, last chapter about 3-4 maps in the main story,hehe...i love the well made funny script..this is the 1st SRPG i'd played,..so funny dood!..haha.. i love Final Fantasy, TWEWY,disgaea DS and that's it...haha

... You should try the handheld Zeldas (before the DS). You may find those better.
    - Links Awakening (GB/GBC)
    - Oracle of Season/Ages (GBC)
    - Minish Cap (GBA)

Aria/Dawn of sorrow were some of the easiest Castlevania games i've played, but they were still the most fun for me. If your finding those too difficult, you probably shouldn't play the others...

I could never get into Disgaea (the ridiculous stats putt me off).
Another SRPG i suggest you play is 'SMT: Devil Survivor', the dialogue in that is pretty funny and it also tailors to your disposition (best thing about it imo). There are multiple routes and endings, all depending on your decisions made throughout the game.
It does get pretty hard however..

    Natewlie A bag of tricks

DQIX is the only turn based RPG I actually enjoy, the storyline is somewhat bare bones so far (Black Dragon, I'm at so far) and I expect it to be that way. It's not a bad thing, imo keeping it simple makes it stray away from the typical convoluted storylines that most japanese made games have. And I can look over the lackluster variety in enemies and the too samey character designs. It's great.

Also the Zelda games on the DS are my least favorite Zelda games. For handheld Zelda games, I find the ones of the GBC (Oracles and Awakening) are my favorite Zelda games. And I didn't like Castlevania at first but once you get used to the somewhat slow movement and start to pick up on the RPG elements, it's fun. The Castlevania games are kinda hard if you don't really know where you're going or if you're not properly equipped.

I'll play DQIX next week, i'm just doing a project, i'm creating a movie, sooo hard....haha...wish me luck!!..haha... just finished Disgaea DS and the etna mode for 49hours, but will not continue, i hate grinding in an SRPG...hehe..im just gonna youtube the other endings..i'd played zelda minish cap, just wasn't my type, though i'd enjoyed ALundra..hehe...can someone give me a more details of castlevania games, im really curious in it bec. it looks too good with all the vampires things..hehe...tnx!

I don't think much more can be said.
Personally, i don't play/enjoy games for the same reasons as you.

    I play Calstlevania For the stuff you don't seem to like;
    - The action and RPG elements combined
    - The difficulty
    - The steady and noticeable rise of your power/abilities throughout

You overly care about character art, dialogue and stories. I don't particularly care about those elements. If they are good, i merely see them as a bonus, gameplay matters more to me.

If you ask me, I prefer the older Castlevania games on the NES Sega Genesis & SNES, namely:

Castlevania 1, or its remake, Castlevania Chronicles on the PC & the PSOne.
    Castlevania 3: Dracula's Curse
    Castlevania: Bloodlines (Sega Genesis)

    And

    Super Castlevania for the SNES.

Note that I also loved Castlevania 2: Simon's Quest it's just that it started the whole free roaming Action Platformer RPG element that later became staple of the franchise. Those four I mentioned earlier were strictly kick ass action platformers that were very typical difficult Castlevania games of yore :)

Castlevania Chronicles on PS1 is a port over from the Sharp X68000 home computer and its a bit different that the NES Castlevania there is a alternate version called Vampire Killer on MSX 2 computer same graphics and difficulty just laid out a bit different.

And lest us not forget Akumajo Dracula X Chi No Rondo for PC Engine as well. Which is the prequel to Castlevania Symphony of the Night.

Because the games are good. It's your opinion if you didn't enjoy them. But at least respect that majority of the people love these games.

Cahos sticks with retro, I on the other hand will dabble in current gen games as well as retro. Not really a Castlevania fanatic, but I do enjoy the series and I am really looking forward to Lord of Shadows on PS3/360.

    Thats called fanbase.

besides, I have no idea how old are you. But series like Zelda or Dragon Quest probably started before you even born.

With all the games launched (lol 9 dragon quests and more than 10 zeldas) the game has now a solid fanbase that enjoys the game and all.

Besides its a bit of experience. With all those years of gaming and good and successful games, any game labeled as "Dragon Quest", "Final Fantasy", "The Legend of Zelda" and others are already expected to be a good game.

PS: opposed to you, I love RPGs with deep story and lots of reading. A good gameplay for me is always a bonus.

I too love RPGs that are text driven & to be honest I'd rather "read" RPGs than read boring old Pulitzer award winning novels because the stories in a good RPG are sometimes better than what writers/authors write about after locking themselves up in a cabin by a lake in the wilderness in a whole year or two :p
