Honestly, and it my or may not be from filters put in my head from the person who got me intrested in FF, but I'd have to say Sephiroth.

What exactly is a strait fight? are we talking no materia? no swords? boozed up pub brawl?

Though we all know sephiroth would own, clouds buster sword wouldnt even be able to get close enough to do any damage, not with that massive blade sephiroth carries around.

I can't recall a time Sephiroth actually managed to beat Cloud. :p

Well, with all the fight's between them i've seen, Cloud always used Omnislash to own. But then again i haven't seen all that many fights between them. But you may be defending your opinion and in that case disregard that last statement, and read this next one. (or don't, doesn't really matter)
And in answer to Almos' question, it's a straight fight, no materia or whatever they use, no crazy long jumping, a fight just like two little kids in their backyard with super huge swords trying to decapitate each other except their way better.

    Sephiroth!
    Sephiroth!

but seriously if its a one on one battle i think Sephiroth would win due to his ridiculously long katana ^.^

Thats 68"! but apparently Sephiroth's sword is supposed to be 6feet (6 feet = 72 inches), and cloud is 6 feet too... still I'd go with Sephiroth!

I think both of them would kill themselves. Both of them have huge swords and both of them have the intelligence of a spidermonkey !

Um, I'm not judging you but... a spidermonkey? What is that an insult or, and i highly doubt, a compliment.

he's wrong though. Bush has the intelligence of a spidermonkey and unfortunately he's not killed himself yet.

Hmm, well with the whole Cloud vs. Sephiroth thing, Square-Enix ruined it for me. If one were to go off the the first 3 or so discs of Final Fantasy VII, back when it was released and there wasn't a lot of messing around with their characters, I'd say Seph.

    But...

Then around the end of Disc 3 (or 4, can't remember) Cloud, impaled, pulls out the sword and throws Sephiroth away? Come OOOOOoooooooon! And then the final battle, the one-on-one with Sephiroth. One Omni-slash...such disappointment. Deep down, we all know that were that fight to really happen, Cloud would be pushing daisies. Fo sho.

My memory harkens back to when I was about 17 playing this game for the first time. I remember the part when I finally crossed the Marsh and saw the cut scene. Sephiroth impaled that huge serpent (the one most players avoid first up...) on a tree! Hard-core! I remember I was thinking "This guy is bad ass!" And the bit when he's floating in Nibelheim mansion and throws the Gravity materia at Cloud (bang! *whimper* Yeaaaaaaaaah BOOOOIIII!), I laughed hard (and at this point I liked Cloud because I had beefed up the character etc).

Then along came all this spin-off stuff with Zach. In my opinion, Crisis Core is a sweet game but Zach as a character grates. Don't get me wrong; Cloud grates, too (In FFVII; I haven't played Crisis Core long enough to have seen Cloud yet). In Tactics Cloud was frustrating to get and not worth the effort (Cherry Blossom instead of Omni-Slash??? I felt violated). But the final straw was the CG movie Advent Children (a very very good movie, IMO). Cloud was pulling some major b***s*** in that fight. His sword as well; as IF the Buster Sword has like 9 swords in it. I was left wondering if I was watching a glorified version of Transformers combined with the Power Rangers.

You know how with the Power Rangers (LOL I didn't watch them as a teen, I'm using this as a reference to illustrate a point) you knew that when they met a strong enemy that they should get their asses whooped, but instead they pull some b***s*** magic trick out of their clacker and VOILA good prevails over evil. GRRRR!!! It's the same thing with Advent Children. When Sephiroth showed up, I was already resigned to the fact that Cloud would win, because in film the protagonist almost never dies. But I also knew that Cloud was pulling some serious b***s*** in that fight. Made me rage hard. Ah well...

So, for me, Sephiroth. Not because his sword is bigger, but because he floats in the air.

That's almost Jesus-powerful, friends; think about it.

I would love to say Cloud but the part of me that hates things is saying sephiroth for sure, the man has that much hate that he is willing to destroy a whole planet just to get his own way would prevail in just about anything he chooses to do, so if he chooses to he would bitch slap cloud into next week and then catch up and do it again just so he could laugh at him.

Cloud has will and determination. Well, when he's not being all emo and shit. That's what makes Cloud always win in the end. Sephiroth is awesome in every degree, but he has no patience. He craves instant gratification, as do most antagonists, and it ultimately leads to their undoing. Going for the deathblow with every single swing of the sword, while he's being worn down with strategy. It's not how hard you can hit that will win you the day, but how hard you can get hit and keep getting up no matter how much you get beaten down that will get you the win. That is why Sephiroth will never beat Cloud.

I think Sephiroth would win because he has more experience in the long run. The heroes always needs to get into a pinch and perform some sort of game world miracle to win so in a straight fight (without game world miracle) Sephiroth will own cloud.

It's hard to say. I mean, Cloud has that whole "I'm not real!" issue, but Sephy has Mommy issues.

Honestly though, I'd say a lot depends on the time-frame. I mean, are we talking about pre Arctic Expedition Cloud and Sephiroth or post? The part before or after Cloud decides to actually do something in Advent Children? Before or after the Rain in AC?

    Are we mixing and matching?

A lot of those really change what kind of fight it'd be.

All told though. I'm sure Cloud would simply impale Sephiroth on his hair spike.

Well... Sephiroth... if only Square wasn't so focused on the good guy winning >.<

Maybe Sephiroth will get his own video game one day :) Then he can win hands down.

Please don't give Square any more ideas for shitty spin-offs. Have we not suffered enough at the hands of the juggernaut that is Square? At this point in time, Square knows that people are wanting a remake of FFVII so bad (myself included), that they could put out a game with Sephiroth on the cover of the box, and the purpose of the game would be to have Sephiroth take a shit on the front of Shinra HQ, and it would sell a billion copies. Just because it contains a character from FFVII. I honestly expect them to make a game revolving around Tseng and how he came to be on the TURKS. *(shakes head) Square knows that as soon as they make a remake, that will have to be the end of all the tie-ins and spin-offs because the fans will have what they want. Square isn't ready to slaughter their cash cow yet.
