well if you are respond. Becuse we can force Sammy to spin off Sega, then if we get enough support, we can take it over! What if Sega was run by gamers!

SEGA has done/still does a lot of things that seem counter-intuitive to making it's customers happy. We need specifics. I'll throw out a few of my personal gripes for fun.

    1) Shoveling Yu Suzuki off to die in a snakepit because Shenmue just didn't sell enough to make up for it's gajillion dollar budget.
    2) Injecting Yuji Naka with some kind of radioactive stupidity serum to make him go from making decent games, like Sonic the Hedgehog & NiGHTs, to downright horrible games, like Shadow the Hedgehog & Phantasy Star Universe.
    3) Semi-related to above - every misbegotten rainbow-smeared anthro-animal mutant since Knuckles. And that includes Knuckles, since they made him into a racist rapping joke in Sonic Adventure 2.
    4) How they've managed every console they ever made, as follows. 'Hey guys, let's get [insert console here] out super-ahead of the competition, so by the time Nintendo/Sony/Microsoft releases theirs', it has way better technology at a lower price! And then we'll flat out stop making good games, cancel production, & let the sad saps that bought one forever regret supporting our company!'

I'm pretty sure that 1, 2 and 3 were the Sonic Team (correct me if I'm wrong).

4 is Sega, it didn't help that the PS2 was bought as a gaming console slash DVD player. DVD tech was fairly new so if you wanted games + DVD player for cheap (and like the PS3, PS2 for a DVD player was cheap), you'd get a PS2. Microsoft launched the 360 a year early than PS3/Wii and they have a large amount of success.

It isn't really Sega's fault that the Dreamcast died, yes some of the fault rests on them but also blame Sony for killing the Dreamcast.

Two things to hate Sega for is the 32X and Sega CD.

I think without Sega making the Genesis early like they did, Nintendo would not of made the SNES. The Genesis was probably the only incentive to release the SNES.

Also praise them for pioneering online console gaming. It started on the Saturn and kept going with the Dreamcast.

Can't say I have anything to complain about Sega especially after playing a very long session of MadWorld its good for anger management, well it works for me anyway for now.

When someone says Sega, I have a flashback to the days of the Dreamcast. I paid like $250 for mine and they stopped making games like 6 months later. I was mad, and it still gets on my nerves to think about it.

I just love it when I read this sought of quote. Yes, in theory it was the PS2 that killed off the Dreamcast. But in the end it was SEGA and ourselves that killed the dreamcast. Don't get me wrong, I love the Dreamcast and am happy I have one.

SEGA killed the Dreamcast by making the Dreamcast too early. They didn't give the Saturn a chance, and it actually had very good support in Japan.

So after all the useless add-ons and an abandend Saturn, who honestly would've trusted that the Dreamcast could've done any better? As koniferus mentioned, he bought the console for over $250 and 6 months later that $250 was wasted. When instead he could've bought a PS2 at the time, and he would've gotten his money's worth for 10 years.

And to say SONY killed the Dreamcast is just something to blame, it was our fault that the Dreamcast died. All of us decided that the PS2 was a better console and no longer needed the Dreamcast. The Dreamcast even had drastic pay cuts, and still we paid 3x more money for a PS2.

So I'll keep saying this, but it was us and SEGA themselves that killed the Dreamcast. Not Sony.

I agree with you. It's really sad people opted to wait a year for a $300 DVD player that also launched with around four games (that all sucked terribly & can't be remembered by anyone, even those that created them). Oh yeah, & no one knew at the time (except Sony, HAR HAR HAR) that playing DVDs on the cheapass Taiwanese drives too much would murder your system. And disc drives with cheapy plasticy parts are extremely prone to breaking. For no reason. I'll grant the PS2 went on to have a couple games that don't suck & people remember the titles of, & being marginally less likely to stop working because the player has the audacity to stick games & movies in it & expect it to play them.

I do disagree on the Xbox 360 having "a large amount of success" though. Although it is surprisingly beating the PS3 by nearly 6 million units sold (30 mill verses 24) worldwide, in Japan it's being beaten by even the PS2, & is undersold only by the original Xbox. I mention all this only because I partially blame Microsoft for the Dreamcast's spectacular crash & burn, as hey, you know, they kind of used it as a testing ground for the Xbox. Right down to the laughably huge controllers & goofy memory cards. For shame Microsoft, for shame.

If I remember right, the Dreamcast didn't see too much success in NA. Is that correct?

By large amounts of success, I mean worldwide, Japan doesn't account for a majority of the sales anymore, it's America that does. Also that the 360 sales wise is in second place behind the Wii. It is a large amount of success in the American market, it got a lot of sales and I don't see how it isn't a successful console. And hey, it's a lot more popular than the Xbox ever was. The 360 is gaining ground in Japan, just a tad too slow though. It's not too surprising that the 360 is being beat by the PS2, because the PS2 still has RPGs coming out, and it the best selling console.

I'm still a SEGA fan... but damnit Sonic team, every major Sonic game since heroes has sucked, trust me, make a 3d remake of 1, 2 and 3 and you will make MILLIONS -.-.
THEN you should make another GOOD Sonic game, quite honestly Sonic Unleashed was alright... except for everything to do with "were-sonic" and the storyline...

I don't play sonic to shoot things, or wield a sword, or turn into this slow moving piece of shit... stop with the gimmicks.

Depends on what type of 3D you mean... I think they need to got back to sidescrollers, that with Street Fighter IV style graphics would be kick ass.

Well, 2d sidescrolling movement, with 3d graphics :p
Of course the same kind of 3d from sonic heroes wouldnt be too bad...

I've been wanting something like that for years.

There is reasons why Sonic continues to be the utter crap we see today. The reason is that the games still sell quite well. Why would Sonic Team put a lot of hard work into a really good game, when they could make 3 shit games a year and make 3x more money?

    Wouldn't a 2D game be a lot quicker to make then a 3d game?

The Sonic Rush DS games, & the Sonic Advances were decent attempts at a 'modernized' 2D Sonic. Sadly, Sonic Team would rather give them zero marketing & publicity, instead focusing on their new console games, starring Sonic as a jousting were-hog, or whatever the hell they're making his reanimated corpse do these days.

As for Dreamcast's American sales, I fail at finding them. All I've run across are world-wide sales, which place it around 10 million. That's from it's launch at the end of 1998 to it's end of production in Japan in 2006. So, pretty broad time frame. They did sell around 1 million at the NA launch, between preorder & retail sales. But still, abyssal.

SEGA tried to move it's last console, but it tried in stupid ways. I feel the majority of it's failure was SEGA's fault, using the same tactics that screwed it's other consoles in exactly the same areas.

Well I want Sonic team to make games. Ever Since Sammy took over, it has been terrible. I WANT GOOD SONIC GAMES! Like the ones of the 90's and Sonic Advanced titles.
