I am thinking about buying a gaming computer. My budget is only around AUS$700. I've found two that im looking at with rather the same specs. The only difference is the processor and graphics card. Computer A has and Intel Core 2 duo processor(2.8ghz) and a 1gb Nvidia graphics card. Computer B has an AMD Phenom II Dual 3.0gx2 with an 512 mb 3d nforce graphics. Which computer should i get? Oh, they both have 4gb ram, 500gb hard drive and a 680psu.

Well what sort of games do you want to play?

They're both quite similar, par the graphics card. I don't think you'll really be able to tell the difference with 0.2Ghz change. Seeing as they're both duel cores you're not really missing anything.

Probably Computer A would be best.

You'd go with computer A because of the graphics card? I want to play the newest games and some mmorpgs. I can live if the graphics are a bit reduced but 512mb should be enough to play new games quite well?

Yeah but what I am saying is that the Processors are better for different things. With 0.2ghz difference you won't really be able to tell much.. I think AMD Processors are a little bit better with gaming though.

Computer A, hands-down. The price margin between a 512MB and a 1GB graphics card is more than a new processor. It'd cost more to upgrade in the long run if you went for Computer B.

It depends on the price... it may have both the same specs, but if the price is different, then go to the cheaper one. if they are same priced, i'll go with intel, cause intel is known to be very expensive...but if the amd is the same price with intel, then go with intel. i bet they are jacking up the price of that amd.

Both are way more powerful than PS3 but the SONY fanboy will shout "the Ps3 has the power of the cell!!!"Uncharted 2 is an expamle!!!What they don't know is both both PcC will run Crysis at the setting that Uncharted 2 can only hope.

i'd say look at some more options.

i'd always go with amd they are better for price verses performance not only that i like them better, also someone i know recently phoned a massive pc part retailer and they advised against intel, i'm not sure on the specifics but it's worth mentioning.

also 1gb or 512mb doesn't mean much on it's own what are the other clock speeds and the like?

i'd say go for ati for gfx as well i know people moan about the drivers but the performance makes up for that and if you go ati you can have your cake and eat it too.

With Intel you're just buying the name.

Computer A, as i've only used Intel so far (BIASED sorry)

Also 1GB Graphics memory means nothing(I know it means something but not for this), its the processing power on the GPU that matters.

Would you care to post the name of the Graphics Card and Model ####? (Example: NVIDIA GT 9600/NVIDIA GT 250)

I would always pick an AMD over Intel. I always got better overclocking from an AMD chip and mobo. Their life is a lot longer, too.

I'd rather not overclock because I'm a cautious person. I'm really sorry but I don't have the exact specs. Computer A is off the top of my head and when i saw it at a computer swap meet it didn't tell me much. But from memory I think it's a NVidia 9500/9600. Computer B I saw an ad for and that doesn't tell me much either. Computer B was $850 then brought down to $700 so now they're on par in price. Umm.. what cell in a ps3?

I would go for computer B why?:::

AMD is better for gaming and it works great with Nvidia Geforce
I'm not a fan of Intel because i find they're hardware not stable enough for good gaming.

here is my PC and I can play games such as Dragon Age Origins batman Arkem Asylum very well
even as it means I have the minimum elements to play everything:

    (Foxconn) Winfast motherboard
AMD Athlon 64 Dual core 5200+ (2.6GHZ each core)
PNY 512MB Nvidia Geforce 9400 GT
    2 GB RAM
    160 GB HDD
DVD burner that's burns every type of DVD

I'd personally build my own with an ATI graphics card.

AMDs are a lot cheaper than Intels.
AMD quad-core has higher GHZ than Intel Core 2 Quad at the same price! But then Intel is more reliable (in my opinopn) For me it does't really matter, if price is a proble, go with AMD.

Intel have a history of processors melting, AMD doesn't.

Personally, I think that you should go with the Core 2 Duo.

I have a Core 2 Duo 2.8Ghz and a really crappy inbuilt graphics card, but because of the processor it allows me to play games that I shouldn't be able to play with my graphics level.

That's just my opinion, I hope that this helps!

That's because you don't have a graphics card. Intel integrated graphics is 'hardware assisted' which is a cop out way of saying its entirely software based and dependent on the CPU. A proper graphics card has its own processor and ram and is not. If you try to play a game that requires a hardware only feature (something that is too intensive for software emulation, such as hardware transform and lighting), the game will not run at all.

But you see, that's what I'm saying, I can play COD 6 on lowest resolution without lag, I don't even meet the minimum requirements!
