(Uh-oh, didn't realise how much I've written, oh well, there's info on each of the PSP games for you here.)

It depends on your skill really.

DJMax Portable 1 was a good entry, being the first one, but the majority of songs and challenges were very challenging, and not a very newbie friendly way to start. I personally didn't ever get DJMax Portable 1, just played it briefly, and it was definately hard, I don't think I passed a single song. Keep in mind that it was my first attempt at playing DJMax ever.

If you're looking for a good, all round experience, DJMax Portable 2 is probably your best bet. It has a good song selection, and has loads of stuff to unlock. I started on DJMax Portable 2, and worked my way up from 4 button to 8 button. Took over a year though. :p
DJMax Portable 2 is a good place to start if you want a game with fairly easy songs, all the way up to finger cramping hell.

DJMax Fever is a good game, with a good amount of content, but there are bugs in it which aren't forgivable. Such as Xtreme Challenges which are impossible, needing a 15,000 combo, and there isn't even 10,000 possible in the songs they give you for example. There are also some songs which just refuse to load and crash the PSP when you start them on certain difficulties. There's also gears which when selected, won't load any song, as they just don't work.

If you're new to the series, you'll want DJMax Clazziquai edition. It's a lot easier than all the others, and has a nice song list too. It basically eases you in to the game play and mechanics of the game. The first club tour challenges are laughable if you've played any DJMax game for a small amount of time, but once you get towards the end, they do get VERY hard (Keep a 98% accuracy through the songs) but aside from the club tour challenges, the actual songs are generally all easy compared to the other games.

DJMax Black Square is hard as hell. The club tour mode is rediculously challenging, meaning making 1 mistake, or not getting all 100% accuracy hits mean you fail. Do NOT start with Black Square unless you're someone who doesn't mind playing the same thing over and over again, failing and failing until they can do it. It's just not worth it.
