ok, so i was trying to fix my ps3 ylod (again), but this time it was w/ a heat gun, as i had remembered watching in one of gilksy's videos. it had been several months since i last saw his video, so what i didn't remember was that you weren't supposed to touch the motherboard during heating, and only do it one side at a time. you guessed it, i didn't check the video beforehand, so i spent about 3-4 minutes TOTAL flipping and heating the motherboard, but when i let it cool and put it all back together, i didn't even get the red power light, so i checked gilksy's video and found out how i fucked myself. aside from straight up calling sony and trying to get the price lowered, or buying a new one (mine is backwards-compatible), any ideas of common places that would be able to repair it? i never even knew it was possible to backup everything to like a usb or i would've done it multiple times when it was still fully operational, then use that, so i'll lose anything on my harddrive if i get a new motherboard/whatever the hell else is married to the motherboard. if anyone knows shops that aren't part of a larger chain, i live about 45 minutes to an hour north of harrisburg, PA
If you didn't hack your PS3, then I'd suggest just buying another one... Get a slim since they don't have this issue. And you also lose the PS2 compatibility, but that's why we have hacked PS2s...
right now i only have ps2 games, but not a ps2, so duh i was playing them on my ps3. however, even if i'd get a ps2, i'd need to get a controller, a memory card, and a ddr pad, because the pad i have is usb and i thought i mentioned about i don't wanna lose the backwards-compatibility?
Getting a second hand ps2 and then hacking/chipping them is cheap though, this is my option... I can't answer your question, I know one store that is local in australia and only operates in australia and not even sure if its running as the ds flashcart thing may of finally caught them...can't find their site anymore.
i'm gonna guess hacking it won't do any good for ps3 games? also, since i'm low on money, is there any way in hell that i can get the current ps3 controller to work w/ a ps2 since it's wireless?
I really don't like the sarcastic tone you have in your posts directed at me and masterDS64. You can figure this stuff out on your own.
if i was sounding sarcastic in any way, i am honestly sorry. i never meant to sound rude at all. i contacted Gamestop/EB Games, and they don't do any kind of in-store repair, so unfortunately that's out.
after looking up eb games, i sent an email to their main customer service asking if any of the stores near me (i listed them specifically) do in-store repairs. instead, they just ship them off to their warehouse to be fixed. that being said, anybody have any experience w/ both gophermods and endless electronics to be able to say which one is better?
...its text...I don't see sarcasm If you don't want to help then just go mate... *ahem* Hacking a ps3 can be an option, and running isos for ps3 games but I have no idea if they made any homebrew emulators for ps2 games, you'll need to look this up on homebrew sites... I've been out of the scene for quite some time and preety much spent more than I should be on games lately, I wish good luck if you try to get the ps3 fixed again seeing how something that is repaired only delays its actual death, better off system transferring to another newer ps3 for saves and certain bits of data, and getting a cheap ps2 on the side (for me any ps2 is cheap, its chump change but then again i laugh at speeding fines, I'm not sure of your budget but try pawn shops and not places like eb games/gamestop as they gouge wallets).
I'm not aware of any homebrew PS2 emulators. Once we get a proper RSX driver for linux we should be able to run linux PS2 emulators.
Or you can get a similar model out of amazon/ebay/mercadolibre and swap the HD on it, given that the slim model came out in theory the older models prices should go down, some people i know have bougth said PS3 gen and swapped the 80 GB HDD for one of 500 GB or one of 1 TB (here i am not sure if to believe them but w/e)
would there be any kind of way to, after transferring the data, put the ps2 saves on a card that i could use on a ps2, and then i'll just nab a new ps3 slim sometime? the main reason i don't want to get rid of this ps3 is because even if the saves can be transferred to a new hdd, there's no way to play ps2 games. also as i stated above, i have a ddr mat that plugs into the usb, so i'll do some research, but i doubt i could hook it up to an old ps2
there is a memory card adaptor available that allows you to plug PSX/PS2 memory cards into a ps3 and transfer saves.
is it the slots with the cover on the left part? if so, i'm screwed, because the first time i opened my ps3, i didn't know what to press to release ribbon cables... (i carefully opened it later (lol after releasing the ribbon cable correctly, this time!) and tried using electrical tape, but it did no good, sadly) just did some research, and sadly there's no way to be able to connect my dance mat to a ps2 (in other news, now it's only half the price i payed for it a while ago *insert rage*)
no, its sold separately and plugs into USB, its for PSX/PS2 memory cards, not removable media cards like cameras use.
If you FreeMcBoot'ed your PS2, you can take the gamesaves directly from a PS3 to a PC (USB drive) and then from the USB drive transfer those saves to the PS2 via uLaunchELF. Converting may or may not be involved depending on what format those saves are in.
And yet you were talking about transferring/converting saves to a PS2 format, on a console you don't have... Get yourself a slim PS2. FreeMcBoot is the next greatest thing not just for burned games, but for transferring/altering saves as well as making mods (or translation patches) for said games.
