What version of PSP is best?

I'm thinking of getting the 2000 model, but I want input before I decide.

3000 sounds too hard to hack, and 1000 seems too old.

    Is the slim version best?

The slim is like a landmine, you don't know if it can or not until you break it.

I got lucky with my slim.

most of my friends like the PSP-2000. It's light and not so fragile

The 1000 is even less fragile.

The sturdyness is nothing of concern in terms of hacking...especially if you got one with a custom shell which makes them easier to break like mine.

The 3000 can actually be hacked but only on lower firmwares, if you get a 2000 psp, run chickHEN and run an app called "pspident".

This will confirm if it's safe to hack by checking the motherboard, if it's not a typically easy psp to hack then there is hope...

It'll be like a 3000 psp, so you need chickHEN to have it stay hacked and not to turn it off completly.

I myself only own a DSi and a PS2 and a DSLite. I was just chatting with my friends the other day about their PSPs

same thoughts. it's good, but you still would be better with a phat.

    I will add...

If you can get working, and use hell cat's recovery flasher then you might have a chance...

This app is designed to shove 5.00m33v6 on your psp, however it auto-detects if it's got certain motherboards and blocks it out so it doesn't destroy it.

But to get that running, you need a compatible psp to run it anyway, so you can partially hack it...as in run custom firmware and download games, it just means the cfw might reset it's self once fully turned off unless you use the sedna plugin or just use the standby to power it off.

I like my 1000 just because it's fully hackable. And my brother has an early-2000 model that is hackable as well.
The difference in weight is HUGE. Mine weighs so much more than his.

But mine also feels a lot more sturdy.

A mate of mine prefers the 100 because he likes to "feel the weight" :D

Makes a good emergency weapon...but enough with what I'd do with it.

Ethier way, unlike a ds you can't throw a psp around as that huge screen of it's is an issue..fingerprints stick out a mile and if it's cracked then it's gonna annoy you constantly.

My ds's (except for my ds lite's) have withstood alot of punishment...including smacking people with them...

In other words (sorry for the ramble) the weight means nothing...if you want it light go for that, if you want what feels like a tank then the 1000.

But the UMD door is certainly stronger on the 1000...I tried to break that...it survived where's the 2000 I was messing with I cracked...hence why I got my shell changed.

    that's what i thought exactly when i hacked my friend's psp 1000!!XD

it was SO much heavier than my 2000. i liked how heavy it was. the same goes for the ds phat compared to my dsi!

The ds phat was too heavy for my taste...at least in my pockets...it pulled them dow too often :(

I only use that at home to do things my dsi can't like dumping games via gba slot.

Weight/sturdiness/"the weight of having it there" VS size/comfort/"not pulling your pants down in your pocket" is how I see this.

I have the Phat and the Go and personally I prefer my PHAT because the Go doesn't have CFW yet and the phat is a very sturdy handheld console.

I have the slim. It's good... Works fine. CFW can be loaded on it. I prefer the lighter systems. I am planning on buying a PSP Go soon, as soon as someone hacks it. Freeplay is setting up an eloader for homebrew, so we might be able to edit the flash0 as soon as that releases, and hopefully one of the game exploits will lead to CFW. Typhoon did it somehow, and ran a PSX game I think, but their team are too much of assholes to release it to the public.

It sucks that my other brother can't play CFW, he got the new Madden Blue Limited Edition PSP, so if I hack it for him, there is a 50/50 chance of getting bricked, because out of the two mobos on the PSP, one is unhackable.

The slim's are hit and miss, not all can be hacked...

And with that madden blue L.M psp, whaty is the firmware on it?

Your own guide can help :)

I have a PSP 3001. It plays well but hard to hack especially since I updated to OFW 6.20 ( I made a post). I think 2000 would be a good choice. I was unlucky not to find one overseas. There was only 1000 and 3000s :/

If you had 5.03 you could have used chickHEN with 5.03GEN firmware :(

LoL I did have 5.03 but didn't know you shouldn't update it. Anyway, Castle you should get any whether hackable or not since some real (possibly pre-owned) games are fairly cheap. God Of War (pre-owned) is about $20 in EB games at AUS.

Lol... It's on 6.20 OFW. I mean it was. I tested M33 on it through Pandora, and used PSPident to check the mobo, and thankfully it was Ta088v2.

What a close call... Now I have 5.50GEN-D3 running on it.

I recommend the slim (2000) model.

    1. Even if you can't hack it, it is slim and bright.

    2. It has none of the screen issue the 3000 has.

    3. It isn't that terrible to determine which motherboard it has (Hackability).

    4. It is probably the most compatible and has better loading times with more features (UMD caching, etc.).

Therefore, the 1000 is like a behemoth-slug PSP, the 3000 is like a schizo-mutant 2000 PSP, and the GO is like an infantile, failed abortion PSP. You decide.

Great comparison of PSPs you got there...

The 1000 is the only PSP that you can insure that it is hackable though.
