what turnbased rpg should i start with

I've never played this type of game have tried twewy and a few others but never get more than 5 minutes into them as the turn based combat and picking armour and stuff always puts me off. However lots get such rave reviews and I love a decent story line that I want to try again. What would be a turnbased rpg thats good to start with in terms of learning and sticking with it?

 

Golden Sun DS is an easy turn based RPG to start out with. I'm assuming you want Nintendo DS turn based RPGs?

You spelled Dragon Quest 9 wrong again, that's a weird typo.

I'd also save FF4, i'd more so advise against FF3 for your first turn based RPG, it can be pretty hard because of no dungeon saves, having to find revives, etc.

Suikoden Tirkreis and Nostalgia are SURELY the easiests RPGs on Nintendo DS when talking about overall challenge.
Grind is easier, story is simple, puzzles aren't complicated and the controls as well.

Golden Sun comes next. The game isn't hard on any way, but you may get lost in the middle of the extras, item hunting or the story itself.
Golden sun isn't hard (ignoring the dammed last boss), awesome plot, simple control, easy but very intelligent puzzles and so on.

Final Fantasy 4 will probably enter the most advanced game.
The game story is really long, lots of extras, some bosses will own the crap of you if you don't know what you are doing and since its a remake of a old style-classic RPG, you can expect a kinda difficult layout of the dungeons.



and most at the end, I don't give a crap do Dragon quest. so whatever where these games would fit.

 

I agree FFIV would not be a good choice to start with especially since you're easing into the genre.

Especially when you first start the game. That damn AI will target Rydia repeatedly, resulting in a KO in one or two hits.
Very annoying...

Turn-based is what it is. If you don't like the slow pace, then I suggest not playing any of these games since that's what turn-based combat is.

The very first turn-based RPG game I ever played was Pokemon Red. But I don't think that's what you're looking for...
It really can't get any easier than Pokemon. I mean, it's designed for 8 year olds...

The Four Heroes of Light should come next, but since the AI is so damn hard, best to leave it till later.

 

Actually, I found the AI to be just right.

 

I would just skip this game

 

dont start off with Final Fantasy 4, it is a hard RPG in my opinion. there is low exp gain and monster battles are harder than regular RPGs. since you are just starting on the RPG genre, i would recommend Golden Sun: Dark Dawn as TirithRR mentioned. it is simple and fun. also a good RPG is Pokemon Heart Gold/Soul Silver (but only if you like the Pokemon genre/series)
