    Hey everyone,

I'm buying a new laptop; the dell alienware m14x

I want to know two things:
    1. where to buy it?
    2. What are the best parts for me to use

I want to use it for games like kingdom of amalur and assassins creed

    My pricerange is 1200- 1300
but probably more around the 1200

Im getting it for my birthday... and dont know how musch money ill make before that..

Here is an example site i used, but i dont know if its the best site to buy it:

    http://configure.euro.dell.com/dellstore/config.aspx?oc=n00w4m01&model_id=alienware-m14x-r2&c=nl&l=nl&s=dhs&cs=nldhs1

And this is the laptop itself:

    BAD choice.

dells are horribly overpriced, alienwares even more so. Also, alienwares are horribly badly designed and overheat frequently. (the components are far too powerful for the case they're in, and the designers don't pay any attention to thermal management)

Loony, while blunt, is more often the not, correct. xD Also, excuse me if I'm wrong, but I though you mentioned that you were going to make a custom desktop in your last thread?

say looney, What i read on the net is quite diffrent then what you say,
Sure, it heats up, but i can buy an external fan, and a cooling pad, so that should be of no problem

cooling pads can only help so much, and remember the heat damages the components. And that doesn't change the fact you're getting ripped off buying a dell.

Laptop wise?? Not really...Sorry. I built a real powerful, real compact desktop awhile ago. It fits in my suitcase just fine. Kinda elimated my need for a laptop, the only thing I use mine for now is general browsing and chatting when I wanna watch a movie or something :p. I could do some research for you if you'd like :p. Its rainy out, this forum is dead and I'm bored as hell.

Idk, The only experience I've had with Dell is with the Optiplex series, good work machines but probly not what you're looking for. And Alien Ware was really good but then Dell acquired them

They've always had major overheating problems, they got much worse when dell acquired them.

HP/compaq (same company) are pretty much the best as far as laptops and prebuilt desktops go

Yeah, they're best until you have to call customer service to get practically told to go fuck yourself.

most companies are like that. my experience is you're less likely to need to call customer service with a HP than you are with a dell or a toshiba or acer.

Hmm really? I love my Acer laptop. It will run Descent 3 and Halo One anyway :p. Not bad for what I paid and the fact that it was one of there 'working models'. Only complaint is that its running Vista and I'm too lazy to put 7 on it. Although that may be an Operator Error.

I've had loads of trouble with my acer (its badly designed) and when I had to call customer service I had to argue with them because they tried to tell me installing a different version of windows would void my (hardware) warranty.

Wow really? xD is that the only solution they could come up with?

the argument was because I'd sent them my laptop to have the hard disk replaced (bad design killed it) and they wouldnt return the laptop until I sent them the recovery discs so they could reinstall the original version of windows. I wanted it back with a blank hard disk.

As a law student i can tell you from the get to go that is BS, installing a version of windows never voids your hardware warranty, since in first place you are using the product as it was intended, just look at the contract and if it doesnt says you cant install a new windows OS, then you are safe, afterall contracts are literal for the most part

I knew it was BS, thats why I argued with them.
