Dictionary says: 1.A quantity or amount. 2.A specified portion. 3.Something that can be counted or measured. 4.Physics a.The smallest amount of a physical quantity that can exist independently, especially a discrete quantity of electromagnetic radiation. b.This amount of energy regarded as a unit. adj. Relating to or based upon quantum mechanics
thanks Spoken about quantum mechanics do you guy know the cat-in-the-box experiment (glad they never did it).
As nex correctly said, it's schrodinger's cat. And it's not actually known whether he actually performed the experiment or not, although it is presumed not because it would never yield any results (opening the box to determine the result would defeat the object of the experiment).
a quantum is a very tiny particle that makes up particles......that make up some other stuff and eventually "strings" or vibrations of tiny electrical bands of pure energy that vibrate to create everything around us!! or say the string theorists......... kinda hard for me to believe that there are 11 to 29 dimensions and a bunch of parallel universes...... i botched that up......yes.......quantums are tiny! i was thinking of quark.........
All of these theories people develop to try to explain everything at once are so hard to understand. Ignorance is bliss. But please don't take that last sentence as a hint to convert to Christianity.
[me=tehuber1337]facedesks[/me] Ignorance may be bliss, but misinformation isn't. This, for example, is so incorrect that I don't even know where to start, so instead I'll just direct everyone to the grand repository of all human knowledge.
Let's clarify this. A quantum is not a particle; it's a packet of energy, the amount of which corresponds to the packet's frequency multiplied by h, Planck's constant.
I think you're confusing a quantum for a quark. A quantum is a measure, a quark is a sub-atomic particle.
yep!! i just realized that while i was driving from a college exam!! i was thinking of a quark, not quantum...
