So I got a 3DS today and I'm looking for a new flashcart that supports 32GB micro sd. However, the current firmware is 9.4.0-23E and as far as I understand, Gateway 3DS doesn't support this update. I read something about Emunand but that's pretty confusing as a newcomer. I also found an alternative called Sky3DS, which claims to support all firmware versions, but it doesn't run eShop games, which is something that I really want (mainly interested in Ace Attorney Dual Destinies. Can someone give me some advice on what to do?

It's an original 3DS which I bought cheap from a friend, so it's not XL or the New 3DS.

You may take a look at the below differences between sky3ds and gateway 3ds flashcarts:

3DS/XL: Gateway 3ds supports v4.1-v9.2 while Sky3ds supports all versions including the newest v10.2.0-28E/U/J.
    2DS:Gateway 3ds supports v6.0-v9.2 while Sky3ds supports all versions.
New 3DS/XL: Gateway works need some extra requirements while Sky3ds supports all versions.
Expandable Memory: Gateway 3ds supports Micro SD(XC) from 2GB to 128GB, so does the Sky3ds.
ROM: both Gateway 3ds and Sky3ds supports 3ds game roms.
eShop: both Gateway 3ds and Sky3ds can play eshop games or online gaming with other players but both still stand the risk of being banned, there's never a "never banned" promise.
Homebrew: Gateway 3ds directly yes can supports it while Sky3ds supports it by booting into Cubic ninja, scanning QR code from Ninjhax 2.1 and installing Pasta CFW and DevMenu/BigBlueMenu.
Region free: Gateway 3ds directly supports it while Sky3ds supports it by booting into Cubic ninja, scanning QR Code from Ninjhax 2.1.
Local play: yes both Gateway 3ds and Sky3ds work great.
Online(ROM): both Gateway 3ds and Sky3ds support online ROMs but both still stand the risk of being banned, there's never a "never banned" promise.
