Seeing as I haven't played it, I wouldn't know, but I would think that the whole MMORPG aspect connotes that the quality of gameplay isn't consistent enough to put it in contention for the title of Best Final Fantasy Game.
Yup roman numerals are harsh especially if your dyslexic like me. My all time favorite in order is IV(4) on SNES/SuperFamicom,VII(7) on PSX and X(10)on PS2
I've had an FFXI account since 2004. It's not your typical MMO. There are almost two completely different worlds. The typical MMO half where you level up, get equipment, fight uber-monsters, etc. Then there is the storyline side where you progress through a story starting in your home nation, eventually merging with players from the other nations, and battling a common evil threatening the world you live in. It has all the common elements of a classic final fantasy storyline, including the androgynous male enemy.
Ah, fair enough. I wonder how well the "merging with other players" bit works in practice, though this is getting a bit off-topic.
