I loved DAO. I personally think it was better than DA2. They gutted alot a things that made me love DAO, like the multiple weapon sets, not confining certain weapons to classes, and the ablility to give you companions different armors (seriously WTF?). How do you feel about it (Dragon Age2)?
Im not trying to say its a bad game, cause its really, reallly fun... but it kinda reminds me of a giant patch... you know, the one where they fix bug and nerf everthing else that could possibly make the game fun... I honestly dont know what the developers were thinking... I do remember though, all of the uproar about this game when It first came out. At that point though, I had never even play DAO yet. Now I see why the fans were complaining.
I like the more action type battle system in DA2, though i only played the demo. I didn't like DAO because of the battle system.
It's specifically the things they took away that made DAO great. Now that those are gone, what's really left for DA2? Not much in my eyes. Class-based combat is probably THE defining feature on a classic RPG. Equipping armor (or really anything) is the basic of the basics. You're telling me that they stripped that out of the game? What were they thinking? So much for customization...
Thats exactly what im saying... all you can do for your teammates is get them certain upgrades for their armor. Atleast they left the ability to change weapons lol. Also, you cant choose different races. I effin hate that. Seriously? I tried playing without the auto attack when i first started off. It was cool at first, but you find your self mashing the X or A button wayyyy too much. I kept count, while finghting a boss, i pressed X over 300 times. thats ridiculous, luckily, they have the auto fight option you can toggle.
You still have classes and you can only customize your own items, you can only customize your party member's weapons though. The only good thing about DA2 was that it was real time, so if someone actually hit you on screen, you would take damage, if they didn't, you didn't take damage. The best thing they did was take away dice rolls a la D&D. Too bad the reused the same level layouts for the entire game, like you could take three different quests and it'd be in the same area, BUT storywise are actually different areas. I literally had three quests and they all lead to the same area, same dungeon, different enemies. This really killed a sense of progress and even the story breaks the sense of progression because the story went NOWHERE, there was very little plot and your character just cleans out the streets from thugs and such for most of the game. OH yeah, the skill tree was good too.
