I've played DQIX - loved it I've played hand of the heavenly bride - hated it (played for like an hour)
Dragon Quest IX IS the best DQ game for the DS You can also play Dragon Quest Monsters: Joker It's a bit like pokemon in 3D
DS? I think IX is the best one, but it's still so... lacking imo. If you want to go play one of, if not THE best DQ game, go dust off a PSX and play DQVII :/
or number 8 on a less-dusty ps2 Now the DS ones, dqm:j and rocket slime are really games of their own spinoff. For the real ones, yeah, nine is the best. Six may be good, if anyone ever translates it.
Really, 8? I played 8 and 7 roughly at the same time... And I dunno, compared to 7, 8 just seemed poorly thought out and quite frankly... boring :/ The static party, the pretty bogus plot, the pointlessly tedious gameplay, dunno. I mean yeah sure you could say DQ7 was more tedious, but there was generally a point behind it (Namely, the final boss is frakkin' Satan and then the optional boss is God... If it WASN'T tedious to get to their levels, I would be surprised)
Hm, maybe. Of course when I was playing 8 i was also playing FF Mystic quest on my ol' SNES, also called Final Fantasy USA or the "stereotype RPG". Guess it's what you compare it to that counts. I've yet to play 7.
