Acer and Packard Bell are often the cheapest, but often less in quality.

I have friends that has an Acer laptop but they only has problems with that laptop
PACKARD HELL should you immediately skip, I used to have a PC of that brand that only caused problems at home.:(

Dell is good, Hp / Compaq is also good, and Toshiba is also good

But do you want your laptop for business/school use, or do you want to play sometimes a good game and watch a movie?

Ill mostly be using it for internet use. Ill be downloading a lot as well. Roms, music, maybe a couple movies. And if the computer is fast enough ill put steam on it but that about it. What netbook seems to fit that use?

    Few questions:

battery life, is this is important for you?
Great screen, how big around? 14inch/15, 6inch/17inch?
    Weight, does it matter?

300$ is a little bit hard to get a reasonable laptop . With 600$ do you have in house big quality and 1000$ laptops are for heavy stuff (games, movies,)

Edit: with 300$ you could get easely a Qualaty mini laptop

You need almost $500 to get a good laptop.

Battery Life doesnt matter ill be carrying my charger around anyway.. as long as its battery life isnt 1 hour
screen can be any size just not so small as to where i cant read the text on the screen
weight doesnt matter at all i just dont want the thing to be bulky.

Very Very hard to find a good one for 300$ , but i found one :)

Good laptop, dell is definitely a good brand. Games can you totaly forget on this system (maybe you can play WOW). The video card is an 4500MHD so you can watch HD movies totaly without any problems . But since you only use the laptop only for Internet, you have a good choice here :)

That's like saying a netbook is good.

Though yeah, go try searching Amazon, they have good deals.

As a matter of interest, why is it a Netbook you want, instead of a Laptop.Youll soon get pissed off looking at the small screen all the time-I have a new Acer 10" netbook-and I think its crap.
The only good thing about it is its small and light...

And it has really good battery life. Many people choose portability and convenience over simply the screen size, especially if they move around often.

and more portable... you could fit in netbook in a small bag that you can't fit in a laptop... and some people doesn't mind about screen size..

Yes,that is its only plus side-but unless your going to spend more time using it on the move than fixed-Id get a Laptop.

Well, the reason I use laptops/netbooks is so that I can move around with them. If I intend for a computer to stay in the same place, then I'd get a desktop.

Here's a portability flowchart, from least portable to most portable.

    Server > Desktop > Nettop > Laptop > Netbook > UMPC

Thats how we can have a good debate-its screen size/power vs weight/portability.

I just think that 10" is too small a screen if your using it a couple of hours.....
