Well, I was going to buy PC games...

Ones that I've downloaded in the past, enjoyed and would play again i.e. Morrowind and KOTOR. However, I realised that crap like SecuROM, Starforce etc. was what got me into pirating PC games in the first place. That and usually I don't have a PC designed for gaming so it can be a little difficult >.>

So I decided to view the Daemon Tools game database and I was shocked at the amount of games that have invasive technologies designed to strip the user of future enjoyment-install limits really grind my gears, then there are the malware technologies that for some reason companies are allowed to use.

Well I might not bother now. Might get Morrowind and Painkiller but that's it. I know this is old stuff but I didn't realise how excessive it could be.

yeah, you`re right: Starforce and Securom is shit. But I guess pirated Games could come with the worst things ever (Viruses, Mailware).
Nothing is as cheap as PC-Software. I never pirated any of my PC Games (got around 300,maybe 400 Originals), `cause it took only 5-6 Months until the brandnew Game is available as Low Budget (20 Euro) and another 5-6 Month until it`s sold out for 10 Euro even in the f*****g Wal Mart XD. I don`t know what PC Magazines you got in the UK, but there are even here in Germany 4 huge Magazines that are coming every single Month with Full-Versions on their Cover (like Full Spectrum Warrior, Neverwinter Nights, Baldur`s Gate or Morrowind for example). So i don`t think there`s any need of pirating at all for this platform. How`s the Situation in the UK?

its rare for a magazine to carry full versions, and games are typically £25-£35 apiece.

Sounds bad. This Month we got on one Magazine called "Computerbild Spiele" the full Versions of "Tomb Raider Legend" and "Fahrenheit".

So you got 2 really great Games on 2 DVD`s for 4.90 Euro. And this is only one of these Mags for example (haven`t checked out the other 3 yet). Morrowind was released on various Mags 2 or 3 Years ago - including the Expansion/Addon.

But the reason could be, that Print-Mags are very popular in our Country (even besides with all the free Online-Mags). As far as I know this Mag above is selling around 300.000 Units per Month. Other Game-Mags sell nearly to 100.000. So they sure got the connection to the Software Publishers to buy full Versions for their Mags.

I have to admit I have pirated a few PC games here and there, but mainly to make an attempt to see if this POS computer can handle it, sometimes I get lucky most of the time I wasted my efforts. I've come across Painkiller numerous times but didn't think it would be worth my time, but I might check it out anyway.

I think some PC games should be pirated because they're just so outdated there is absolutely no point to continue selling them because no one will buy them. E.g. Warcraft 3, the story is good, lacking in gameplay & graphics. The great thing about WC 3 is the mods, that's the only reason most people play (DOTA).

But Diablo II sold around 10000 Units alone here in Germany the Week, when the News got out that Diablo III was coming. Warcraft III wouldn`t be in stores anymore IF it wouldn`t be sold.

There are also the games that don't get rereleased for whatever reason, or they get crappy re-releases which barely work. I can't believe that magazine -_- Then again I suppose those games are 'older' and may have sold the maximum they ever will so developers don't need to care as much...or something.

I'd really like to get into PC gaming, I used to like modding communities and at least I'd be able to play Left 4 Dead and Mass Effect since they'll never see the PS3 :( But it's too expensive. You need a great system, then there are upgrades and the games themselves. I'd only have space for a gaming laptop too :( So many darn limitations. Oh well, many years into the future I'll be able to play them eventually *sigh*

don't do gaming laptops, they're an oxymoron. Outdated as soon as you get them and not actually able to play games properly. And they're really expensive

Yeah, of course this Re-Releases on Magazines are older. But all of them are patched contrary to the Versions in Store (and most of them came along with some Mods).

Hmmm, well usually I don`t support Games that are forcing me to get a Net-connection to play. Mass Effect is the only exception (since Half Life II, didn`t played it too on the PC by the way for the same reason, this becomes more and more standart). You played KOTOR, Aiiko? Runs perfectly, even with this f*****g Securom (or was it Safedisk?). At least you don`t need a HighEnd Computer to play both "Knights of the old Republic" - I remember playing them on a Geforce 4. XD Awesome Games and still today an OPERA. ;)

    Well,
There are tons of pirated Warcraft 3 here, along with the Frozen Throne.
and Most of the PC games are pirated.. I think..

I can't get Knights of the Old Republic to run for shit retail or pirated on any computer (even the one I am using now but I blame the OS as its vista it hates everything and I hate it just as equally half the damn time they wouldn't install or other problems finally said the hell with it and bought them for XBOX when I had one....I miss them as I never did complete them.

Dragon Age doesn't have any protection other than a simple disc-check. And is a great game :)

I used Win 98 `til 2007...so it runs even on this Low End OS: XD Could be your Vista, yes. I aint gonna leave Win XP the next 4,5 Years, that`s for sure. Games like "Kotor" are....well, quit uncomfortable with a Pad-control. :( Isn`t there any Patch around that fixes the "Kotor" Series for Win Vista?

I think its just something was doing wrong as I have tried installing it on XP systems, and I have no patience so if something doesn't work I say the hell with it and go to something else and try it again later. I would change this one to XP but its not really mine so that is out.
