I'm trying to set up a Pokemon fansite. I'm a COMPLETE noob to setting up a web page, so there are a few topics I need help with:

    • Registering domain name completely free
    • Publishing HTML files with no previous webspace
    • Editing the HTML files while published
    • Making an icon (for example RomUlation's game controller)
    • Doing it all on Linux

I did have a topic going for the domain name problems, but dot.tk isn't working for me. That's because all they register is .tk domains. I'm trying to register a .org domain.

I have the HTML files all typed up, but I can't figure out how to publish them.

When they're published, I will have to edit the HTML files. I have no idea how to do that.

I have no idea how to find an icon and attach it to the website, let alone making one.

If anyone can help me with these problems, you will be credited. Thank you.

If I'm not mistaken, you have to pay for .org sites.

yes you can't get a .org for free. .tk is about the only free one there is.

you will need webspace. free will plaster your site with ads, won't necessarily have very good uptime and can delete your site for any or no reason at all, without prior warning. Paid can be as low as $10 a month and you get much better service than you would from a free webspace provider.

publishing files is usually done via ftp or a web based file manage depending on your web host.

editing usually involves reuploading edited files, but it depends on your web host.

icon is a 16x16 image (in .ico format) named favicon.ico in the web root.
