    Come on guys the download mirrors SUCK!!!.I am using a dial up connection with a speed of 230 kps with downloading speed of only 3kps How do you i download stuff i request You PLEASE DO SOMETHING ABOUT IT!!!! THANKS!!!!! 8)

    You want fast downloads with a dial up connection?

    3KB/s is about as fast as you will get on dial up, the physical line cannot go any faster. Not our problem, you need to get a better connection.

    yha get a better down load conetion if u like to get down loads faster. but YOU STILL GOT DIAL UP WOW. lol anofe of that. go with timewarner cabel or or some company that gives u dsl with one of there plans

    Please read the [rules]. SMS language is for places where the amount of text you can write is limited, RomUlation isn't such a place so U instead of You and such isn't allowed.

    i never would have imagined dial up speeds would go as slow as 3kbps
    i thougt it was 15-20 kbps

    I don't really see the problem, the fastest my dial-up ever went back when I had it was 2KB/s on downloads and that was if I came on when it wasn't busy...

    they still have dialup?? :D :D :D :D poor guy must be in nowhere or more broke than me.

    speed is controlled by both your pc and connection, that also comes down to the demand on the:
    pc "wether it has enough resources to handle the full speed"

    the quality of your connection "testing gets advanced but an easy thing is an online speed check, i've gone down to checking signal strength while tech's are here working"

    the distance from you to the ISP "still apply? it does with dial-up" This is the distance to travel, longer is the same as running to a close store or a far away store, closer is faster.

    traffic on your isp and the site your connecting to.

    among others including having your pc setting correct. "gets advanced"


    RomU has more than the capability to hold me at over 300kbp/s with more than 1 download, then the cap kicks in and knocks me down.

    i Can download at a little over 2mb/s from sites like Micro$ i have a 20/5 fios connection, now downgraded to a 10/2 because of cost. "didnt benchmark it yet"


    i suggest checking settings and doing an online speed test, google it, easy to find. then also look into a better connection, they average 40-50$ us dollars a month, fios can go as high as 100$ for something like a 50mb connection and fiber optic has potential for up to 400mb connections. RomU is probably running a 1gb?

    the next thing, look at the specs of your pc, an old pc isnt worth a good connection, HDD speed, processor power and ram all slow downloads down. ram seems to be the biggest player. may not be correct on this.

    Hardware has very, very little to do with download speed at this level. RomUlation worries about our hardware because a faster harddisk can mean the difference between 225mbit/sec and 250mbit/second. But at anything lower it's insignificant.

    i was speaking on the downloaders end, not downloadee's.

    I'm using a maxtor 5400rpm drive, i see a difference in everything i do, everything downloads to temp folders then when finished copies to permanant locations, correct?

    i won't argue a point i have no proof via example. i am simply discussing.

    Correct if you use IE. Firefox downloads to a .part file in the permanent location.

    Dialup is 56k, but it doesn't mean it downloads at anything similar to that number. I used to have it :(

    56 Kbps = 7 KB/s. Really, it's hard to understand whether you mean bit or byte.

    B = byte
    b = bit

    Dial up is kid stuff.7kB?you guys call that speed?Even my crappy connection dls at 30-40 kBps.And what's Isdn?

    ISDN is a digital phone line that provides two 64Kbit channels. These are usually bonded to form a 128kbit channel which provides internet at approximately 13-15KB/s. Unlike dial up, where you cannot use the phone while you are on the net, if you have ISDN and the phone rings, one of the 64kbit channels gets dropped to allow you to use the phone, and it reconnects to the other once you hang up. So effectively your net runs at half speed while you are on the phone. ISDN was the precursor to DSL, but it still has its uses as it is a dedicated connection, whereas DSL is contended. It is highly expensive as you need a dedicated line installing, however the phone conversations using ISDN are higher quality than regular PSTN.
