Want to update R4DS on DS Lite but don't know where to start?

    Hi all,

    I'm sorted with my boys' DSi and their acekard2i thanks to members here.

    My elder daughter though has an old DS Lite on which she has an R4 card. Someone configured it for her, years ago and I think it's time it was updated so that she can play more recent games.

    So, as I haven't dealt with an R4 card before, can someone please tell me where to start?

    When I turn it on, it shows 'R4 Revolution for DS' and is version v1.18

    I don't know if the v1.18 is the R4 or the DS Lite firmware? If it is the version of R4, I can't seem to access the system settings to check on the DS Lite firmware?

    I've also read on here about something called 'wood', in simple terms, what is that and do I need it?

    its r4 firmware. Its last official.
    for update download Wood R4 its the best R4 firmware.

    Did it this morning and it was as straight forward as the link stated.

    Saved all games/formatted the memory card/dragged the 'wood' files onto the card/ran it/dragged the games back on and hey presto

    The link to the little app which changes the saved games extention is brilliant. It changed all saves from .sav to .nds.sav, literally in the blink of an eye.

    i know you sorted it out, but so you are not confused. v1.18 is for the r4. it is called kernel or loader but people called it firmware. and dsi uses firmware, its latest is 1.4.1, and ds lite doesnt have firmware updates

    incorrect, it is a firmware, people refer to it as the kernel.

    Well, whatever it's called, it's working great thanks.

    Just a couple of queries:

    I take it there is no option for AP in the DS Lite settings?

    And, is it possible to make the yellow folder, named _rpg from the front screen (where the games icons are)?

    WoodR4 v1.22 now has a choice for both dave type .sav and .nds.sav - check on start/settings/page 2/save extension select your save type (A) OK it!

    This DS Lite only has one page of settings and 4 options:

    User interface style (skin)
    Language
    Set file list type
    Safe Mode

    First 2 are obvious. I didn't realise that the 3rd togs between All/NDS/NDS+SAV

    4th has just ON/OFF - whatever that is?

    Its jsut 1 screen. You can navigate from the by L/R or jsut by pressinf with the stylus. (Look at the name of the window, near it there are arrows)
